Tundra the Driving Dog.....

During the early 90's I enjoyed the exploits of "Toonces the Driving Cat" sketch on Saturday Night Live. the sketch in the link was typical of the antics of Toonces and his addled human "parents" Lyle and Brenda (Dana Carvey and Victoria Jackson.) It is worth enjoying if you have a minute. Those who know me as a pet-friendly Realtor know that I often take my Siberian Huskies Jade and Tundra out on the road with me. One day I had both of them with me one day and they were anticipating a run in one of their favorite dog parks. As I returned to the car with some bucuits for them and a cup of coffee for me, I found that Tundra was learning about life in the driver's seat. The scene definitely brought me back to the days of "Toonces the Driving Cat."

She looks mad here.."You CUT ME OFF!" It looks like she is ready to give that driver the puppy paw.

What I find particularly distressing, Ruthmarie, is that a self-avowed pet advocate like yourself has not invested the time nor inclination to teach those puppies to "click it or ticket it." Huskies who live in igloos shouldn't throw warm stones. :)

Have you ever been involved in the establishment of a dog park? I'm really trying to get one started locally but it is an uphill challenge!

Ok Andrew - Tundra and Jade never throw warm stones...but they do live in an Igloo at least on Twitter.  As to seatbelts - we're working on that!

Bo - I know a few people who have been involved.  It wasn't easy.  there are issues galore. One thing is to establish criteria for the dogs.  Some parks around here ONLY welcome local dogs (like within the town or village.) Some require a fee or permit.  The other thing you need to look at traffic flow and all the rest.

LOL! I remember Toonces! Love the pictures Ruthmarie, Tundra does look a little miffed......you weren't gone long were you? ( my husband got miffed today when I dropped a contract off and said I'll just be a minute! Fifteen minutes later, I'm back!!)

Hi Debbie - sounds like you had an eventful day - saw you on Twitter - but I wasn't tweating.....

Anyhow - I will tell you that they were waiting for their romp at the dog park with their "friends."  We had just  finished a nice long walk around the Tarrytown Lakes on that particular day. I had hoped to take pictures for the blog  but there weren't enough leaves on the trees to make it look nice.  The pics were a disappointment, but I promised them a romp.  It was COLD out and the park is right on the Hudson River.  So, I went to get a HOT sugar free mocha cappacino with skim milk.....Nice shot of heat and caffine for energy and  warmth.  They had to wait - but not more than a few minutes.  Ironically, these were the best pictures of the day!

I LOVED Toonces the driving cat!  Adorable dogs.

Very good looking dogs. My Chloey loves to get behind the wheel. She will even sit in the seat with her paws on the wheel looking over the dash lol.

Ruthmarie: I hadn't seen the Toonces skit before, it was pretty strange but still funny.  smileysThey don't make Saturday Night Live skits the way they used to!

Thanks for sharing your dog pics, they seem like really nice pets.

Ruthmarie, Your dogs are beautiful!  Don't leave the keys in the car, they may just take it for a ride!

05/24/2008 12:15 AM by Roberta LaRocca - REALTOR® Las Vegas (Keller Williams Realty The Marketplace)

Cheryl - That was the only skit I could find. The others were absolutely hilarious.  I remember one with Linda Hamilton and Toonces played a robot cat from the future out to destroy Michael Conner...he was called the "Tooncinator"  Hilarious - but I couldn't find it.

Thank you Roberta - I see what you mean.  Jade seems content to leave the driving to me...but Tundra really wants to take it for a spin...

HA! I used to have a husky mix who LOVED the dog park. My babies now are too "barky von schnauzer"-ish to socialize with other common dogs in a common area such as a dog park. LOL

Hi Kristi -

Some guys just don't socialize well.  Huskies are inherently social because of what they are.  As dogs that have to cooperate by pulling sleds, they are just generally social and learn to get along with others. That's a good thing, because they need to RUN THEIR LEGS OFF in order to burn off the excess energy.

Cute, cute, cute!  But I think it was "Toonces the cat who could drive."

05/25/2008 07:47 AM by Melody Botting RE/MAX Empire Realty

Melody - You are probably right!  I was taking it from the "theme song."  "Toonces the driving cat, the cat who could drive a car...."
