Best 10 Big Cities To Retire

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Daytona Condo Realty, 386-405-4408

A friend of ours, who recently bought a second condo in Sarasota, sent me this link to The 10 Best Big Cities To Retire In The U.S. Wow, they hit two cities on this list. Sarasota being #1 in the nation, according to US News & World Report, and Daytona Beach taking line 7.

By the way, one of the criteria used was housing affordability, and I can attest to that we are the most affordable coastal community on the Atlantic.

While we do not have a condo in Sarasota, we are still very proud that our Daytona Beach coming in 7th place.

Some smart people say that if this is one of the best places to retire, it is sure one of the best places to live even before you retire, or if you never retire, which is, probably, more of our scenario :)

But anyway, this is a warm place; nice people; not really slow, but not New York-crazy…

And yes, the beaches, the walks, the breezes…

With a couple of exceptions, I noticed most of these cities are pretty much warm year round, Jon. And affordable. Which is why you don't see any cities in California.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - Guess, it is not the climate :)

I do not understanding how people can ever retire there, anyway.

Sounds like a great list.  I hope a lot of people take you up on your list.

For me, I want a small town with 10 nice lakes to fish!

William Feela - I am sure they also run the list of 10 Best Small Towns, and tons of other lists, maybe even one with lakes. For some reason, I believe you already know one :)

Hannah Williams - if I were young, I would probably run away, where are lights and where is life...

But I am no longer in this category. So I am here, and I enjoy it, and knowing that someone else thinks that this is a great place is even better

I have visited most on the list.... but I'm more a visitor than a retire there to a city kind of girl.  I love my tiny town.

Daytona is one of my favorite places to visit.  My husband did live there earlier too.

For the most part a good list. 100,000 people move to the valley of the sun each year. Hard to believe Phoenix didnt make the list.

Tammy Lankford, - I guess, it depends on the age and on the aspirations. I understand young people, who dream of New York and Boston. But as we get older, career gives up to other values, and we cherish different things in life.

And this is why I like Daytona. It is not a big city, not in the 1st and even second tier, but I am no longer dreaming of really big cities.

Gary & Melynda Wolter (CRS) 480-269-1164 - I hear you, but I am not surprised. They have the list of criteria, and even one of those can "kill" the choice. It is still fairly subjective.

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386 - well, an another reason for us to plan a short trip there, as we usually go to Clearwater and Treasure Island, and couple of times went to St. Petersburg to Dahli's museum, but never made it to Sarasota
