Grab a cup of coffee an quit chewing your fingernails. The Grand Prize Winner of the 1st Annual ActiveRain Article Contest has finally been announced!

A contest like this can never be entirely objective. The judges are human and the perception of quality is highly individual. Regardless, I think you will agree that the 1st Place Winner of this contest, submitted an excellent article that illuminates the characteristics of a great article by any measure.

The criteria of the contest were fairly straightforward. The purpose behind the contest was simply to find out if the members of ActiveRain wanted to improve the quality of the content on the network. We have many members who work hard at producing well-written, informative and entertaining real estate related blog posts. It is not an easy task.

The contest winner met all the original criteria. Her article is real estate related. Her article is well-written. Her article is thought provoking. Most importantly, her article is highly relevant to the other members of ActiveRain.

Lesson #7: Drive by Amber Riviere

Congratulations Amber and thank you for a great article!

The prizes for 1st Place are:

  • 1000 bonus points for 1st Place
  • The Article will be Feature again today on ActiveRain
  • The article will be published in it's entirety on SoundBiteBlog.com with an author credit at the top and a live link to a site of your choice. Please let me know what Anchor Text you wish to use in the link.

This contest has been surprisingly successful. Originally, I believed there would be some interest, and hoped for (with fingers crossed) 50 articles. The submissions eventually totaled 75! Every one of the articles was above average. Many of the articles ranked with the best I have read since I joined the network in July. The quality of these articles was so consistently high, it became very difficult to judge them. I want to thank all the entrants for making this so difficult. It has been a real pleasure to meet all of you through your writing! I found myself saying again and again, "Wow, this one is really good too". And then I would read the next article and once again say "Wow,...".

It is clear that many more 'Rainers than I realized, are aggressively trying to produce high quality posts. We have some fascinating and often entertaining 'voices' on the network. ActiveRain is a member-driven network of real estate professionals. You are ActiveRain! We are ActiveRain! I am proud to a part of such a talented and impressive collection of the finest real estate professionals in the world.

Thank you to all the writers and thank you to all of the commenters. Active participation from both groups was necessary to make this contest a success. Feedback from the readers is what lets the writers know they have been heard. Comments are, in their own way, the most important part of a contest like this. Make sure you leave one on Amber's post. She will appreciate it!

If you would like to give Amber the highest compliment possible on this network, click the blue button in the top right hand corner of the screen. Subscribing to another members' blog is the ultimate 'blog nod' on ActiveRain. As a matter of fact, take a moment and click on the big blue button on this post! I promise, I won't be offended!

Mark, thanks for stepping up and being a driver here at Active Rain.  This contest was a lot of fun.  There are a lot of competitive people here so it's nice for someone to throw up a challenge like you did.

You did an outstanding job on this one but we have come to expect great things from you!  You must be going cross-eyed by now with all the reading. Many thanks to you for hosting this contest and giving us all the opportunity to be a part of just one more great sharing excercise!  We've enjoyed it greatly and had the opportunity to read and gain so much from everyone involved.  Now go take a well-deserved break!

Hey Mark!

I didn't realize you were a Gardener too!  Join our club!  Right now it's just me and Nick but we welcome more members.  Isn't too cold where you are now to garden?  I'd love to give you a call but you seem to be so busy that I don't want to disturb you.  Let me know when a convenient time would be to chat for a moment or two.

Lisa: it's still a little crisp here but all my bulbs are up, the roses have buds, the hydrangea has new growth and the birds are starting to sing again in the morning. So, the gardener in me thinks it's spring. My gardens have a long way to go this year. I got a good start last year, but I have almost an acre. An acre is alot of space.

Wow!  Everyone submitted such AMAZING articles for this contest, so it's really hard to say what an honor it is to be up in the top with Tim and Mariana.  I just enjoyed this week at AR so much.  Everyone was so supportive of each other, and we had some really great conversations as a result of this contest.  I'm sure everyone will agree that Mark deserves the most recognition.  Thanks, Mark, for putting this together.  I hope you'll start another one really soon.

Everyone has submitted such nice comments, and I promise to reply to each of you as soon as I can.  Right now, I'm out the door for the day, and I probably won't have a chance to check back in before tonight.  I will post to all of you then.  Thanks so much everyone.  You all made this a success, and everyone deserves points for this!  Points for everyone!!  Come on, Rain Gods! :-)

Thanks again, everyone!  This is great!

Mark - Thanks for your initiative with the contest. It would have been difficult putting together a Top 20, much less a Top 3 -- the quality and diversity of the entries was amazing! I don't know how you find the time for your business, AR, welcoming new members to the Rain, contests, and Soundbite. You're a great example of how to build a presence in a community by focusing on others. Well done!

Very nice.  The importance of being focused cannot every be overemphasized.  I have seen agents absolutely flounder when they were not focused on their daily business.

We need to think about this matter regularly and Amber's article approached the matter with skill.

Know who you are.  Know what you are doing.  Know where you are going.  Follow the plan.

Ines, I'm sorry for the confusion. I went back and checked and your articles were in the contest. The scoring system was set up as a blind system, so that the judges simply moved from one article to the next and scored as they went. There were so many articles I couldn't keep track of what author wrote which article or even who was in the contest by the end. But, your articles were definitely in the batch. I was just a little punchy by the time I finished...
