One of the main responsibilities of a real estate agent is to become well-versed with what we do for a living. There are different degrees of knowledge absorbed and retained in order to properly execute. Whose obligation is it to master what we need to know to progress to the next level with our business?
There are many courses available to us. We pay for them. We receive the materials, and then it’s our duty to accept accountability to ourselves to spend the time grasping the information.
If there is a group of professionals who are in the same position, and the material is online, one has the ability to ask questions. One has the capacity to address questions to the group leader.
However, if the material has not been digested with effort put forth by the student, the entire process is void. One must take responsibility to read, learn and do research to have as much of an understanding of the information disseminated. If one does not understand the material, ask the instructor. Start an online conversation and don’t stop until you understand the material.
The burden is not on the Group Leader to feed, chew, digest and satisfy the needs of the student. When I was enrolled in my building construction program, it was up to me to learn every word of each process. It was like learning a new language, but I accepted the tasks. Every course, at that time, was $1,000/credit. They were all 3 credit courses. I “ACED” all of them and never had to sit for a final exam!!
Our success with “accepting responsibility” for our education is directly relative to what we can expect for successfully executing, in the field, the knowledge learned!! If we don’t understand the material, ask for explanations. If we haven’t read the material, don’t expect to be spoon fed.
Take responsibility for your own career. It’s your decision. It’s your money. It’s a reflection of your discipline and determination to succeed.
Just saying, after I was "cranked" today…..
