Are you relocating to Michigan near Detroit? Is your job transfer taking you to Southeastern Michigan? If you are new to the area picking out the right community and the right home can be daunting if you have a short time period. That is when a good relocation agent comes in handy . Do you also have the dream of living on the lake? Water for so many people is relaxing. What better way to relax after a long day at work than to sit out on the deck and look at the water or take a boat ride around the lake. If you are considering a lake home then you have come to the right place.
There are some many wonderful lakefront properties in Oakland County and the surrounding suburban Detroit area. There are waterfront homes in Wayne, Livingston, Washtenaw, and Genesee Counties. So where ever your job is there is a lake and waterfront home near your work. What you have to realize when buying a lakefront house in southern MI is that we do not have huge 2000 + acre lakes in the area. Most of our bigger all sports lakes range from 200 to 1300 square feet. If you do not know what an alll sports lake is ......it is a lake that you can have any type of boat on and do just about anything in water sports.
Your Michigan job transfer is going to make your lifestyle so much better. Michigan home prices per square foot are much lower than many other major cities in the US. So what are the best cities in Southeastern Michigan for lake living? It really boils down to what you and your family is looking for in a community, and what you plan to do on a lake.
In metro Detroit there is only one city with a lake in it that I would call questionable because of the higher crime rate and poor schools. That lake is Crystal Lake in Pontiac. The rest of the cities with lakes in our suburbs of metro Detroit have good to excellent schools. They have safe communities where you can walk around at night, no gangs, no need to be fearful of being robbed at home or being carjacked when out driving around. Most of the lakes in Southeastern Michigan are 20 miles or more from downtown Detroit.
One of the best cities in South Eastern Michigan for lake living is West Bloomfield. West Bloomfield MI has a top rated school system, good city services, low crime rate and nearby highway access. Many of metro Detroit’s business centers are just a short drive from West Bloomfield. There are many different sizes of lakes in West Bloomfield. Here is a list of them.

The big lakes – the great lakes
This is just one of our good cities in SE Michigan for lake living. You may want to live close to downtown Detroit and be on the Detroit River or on Lake St. Clair. The big lakes may be more to your liking. Having a large cabin cruiser or off shore speed boat may be more your style. Then Grosse Pointe, or St. Clair shores may be the place you call home. If you work on the east side or in downtown Detroit this may be the best choice if you are looking for a short commute time. You could live on the Clinton River and be just a short boat ride out to the big water. Or you could live south of downtown Detroit in Wyandotte or some of the cities further south. Then you would have quicker access to Lake Erie.
Or you may want to be close to our college town of Ann Arbor. The chain of lakes in Hamburg gives you the ability to access many lakes via the Huron River. You could fish to your hearts content in the many little bays and covers of the chain of lakes. Or stop in for dinner and a drink at Zukey Lake Tavern.
Yes there are many great cities in South East Michigan that have beautiful lakes and a wide variety of waterfront properties to chose from. Give me a call at (248) 310-6239. I have worked with so many of the nations relocation companies. Having a lake expert on your side can make your next move easier.
