So What does downsize mean to you?

So when a new client says to you "We want to downsize" mean to you?

This past week I received a call on a current listing which is 3652 sf.  It is under contract so we started looking at other homes.  As part of the filtering of homes to send to these new prospects I asked a few basic questions and then proceeded to send them potential homes.

After a couple of days, we spoke and decided to look at a couple of homes.  One of the remarks was we want to downsize from our current 2700 sf home.  When asked about what she liked, she stated "Something like your listing".  That listing is 3600+sf single story with a breezeway between the house and garage so looks HUGE when viewed straight on.  So ok good starting point.

But they needed to go down from their home size of 2700 sf because they were getting older.  Off we go searching.  Every home while beautiful seemed small  (we are looking at 2200-2500 sf) and none of the masters or living areas was large enough.  We are talking 250+sf masters so do I really think they can downsize and be happy?

Probably not but we'll keep looking.

William Feela   And that is the hard part for so many people.  Had a listing recently that was so serious they hauled off 3 big dumpsters of stuff.  13 yrs weren't happy to see their trikes go but the homeowner was and now they are ready to move

Faye Taylor Welcome to AR.

Instead of downsizing, I prefer to use the term "RIGHT sizing"  You have more choices and are not hung up on the exact size.

Instead of downsizing , most over 55ers , are most concerned about acquiring SINGLE Floor Living !

Hi Faye- I love Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland 's use of rightsizing. I banned the use of the word downsizing from my husband's mouth! LOL So often it's not just the square footage but how it's laid out.

Kathy Streib Rightsizing is also a more correct description and a bit kinder. Thanks for the mention.
