Many people who buy homes or rent in the Philadelphia area choose this region because of its rich rock and roll music roots.  Philadelphia is a major stop on many performers' world tours, and we also have had many home-grown stars, who got their start in the niteclubs throughout the region.  Philly rock fans take their music seriously, and some are avid concert-goers with quite a collection of memorabilia.  If you are one of those serious fans, then this event is for you:

To Benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, WMGK (102.9 FM), one of Philadelphia's outstanding clasic rock radio stations, is sponsoring the "7th Annual 102.9 WMGK Classic Rock Art Show"

From March 2nd, through the end of the month, the rotunda at the Shops at Liberty Place (16th and Chestnut Streets in Center City, Philadelphia) will be home to a classic rock fan's dream come true: concert posters and photographs, along with over 200 pieces of original art,  handwritten song lyrics, lithographs and photographs by and of some rock ledgends will be on public display.

Artists like Jerry Garcia, John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Ringo Starr, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Carlos Santana, John Entwistle, Tony Bennett, and many others will be featured.  There will also be celebrity appearances, including:

Baron Wolman - 12pm- 4 pm Friday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 3rd
The first photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine. Wolman photographed many of the legendary icons of clasic rock, including Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, Hendrix, The Who, Morrison and more.

Pauline Sutcliffe - 9am - 11am Sunday, March 4th
Sister of Stuart Sutcliffe, former 5th Beatle, will be joining WMGK's Andre Gardner's as a guest on his award winning "Breakfast with the Beatles". Sutcliffe performed with the group in Hamburg and Liverpool during their pre-fab four days. His time with the Beatles was chronicled in the 1994 film "Backbeat." Pauline has amazing and somewhat controversial stories about the Beatles early days.

Chances are you've been to some of their concerts, or wished you had been...maybe you have a collection of your own concert memories:  ticket stubs, photos and tee shirts.  Chances are equally high that your collection will be a mere shadow of this years' offering.  That's right, I said offering, not just display.  You can enjoy just looking at the display, of course, since admission to the show is free, but don't just look - all items will be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric Aids Foundation.  So add that rare piece to your collection, and help children afflicted with this deadly disease at the same time.

 Win-Win!
