PeeWee football

Absolutely gorgeous young boys.

And fairly handsome coaches!

It was somewhere in the early 1970's or late 1960's when PeeWee Football was started in Searcy AR.  These young boys are now grown up and professional in so many different fields.  One coach, Rodger Duncan, on the right is still a football lover who likes looking back on his coaching career.  The other, Sid Quattlebaum, has passed away but the two friends loved coaching these boys.  The names are on the back but let me see if you know any of the boys and can tell us about them now!  In 2010 I did a blog about this team.  If you want to see that blog, click here.

I recognize many of these guys! And lots are very familiar but my old brain can't quite remember the names! Please post all of their names later after everyone has had a chance to guess. Love your posts Barbara!

Is it my imagination or is the left side of the goal post a lot shorter than the right side?

Merryl, I'll get the names out soon.

Dan, it looks to me like the goal post is broken!

That team was the 1970 team. It was the second year of the league. The Duncan's team (nickname Roadrunners) finished in 2nd place with a 4-2-0 record.

Here is some additional info about your photo. In the background two teams are playing a game. The orange jerseyed team is the Powell Truck line "Truckers". The blue jerseyed team is the Capps Motor company " Cougars". Powell and Capps were local businesses that sponsored those teams. There was a 4th team in this league, the Speed Queen "Rams". On the day of this photo, the Rams were the Roadrunner's opponents and followed the game in the background. The league played September thru October in a round- robin format. I believe Mr. "Coach" Quattlebaum played for the Razorbacks. He had an inspirational phrase for his players at halftime that went "They're going to eat your lunch!" Two players on the Roadrunner team went on to play for the Arkansas State Indians.

I need to make a correction regarding the team names in 1970. The team in the blue jerseys shown in the background of your photo from 1970 were the Searcy Flooring Cougars, not Capps Motor Company. Searcy Flooring was the league champion in 1970 with a 6-0-0 record. Capps Motor Company did not sponsor the blue jersey team until 1971.
