Historic Crown King Saloon
It's a crAZy 27 mile drive to get to Crown King Saloon smack dab in the middle of nowhere. It is the oldest continuous running saloon in AZ. You follow a dirt road with plenty of switchbacks and beautiful scenery. Actually, it is almost right in the center of Arizona in the Bradshaw mountains.

Now that I have your attention, prospectors started staking out claims in the 1870's. The Bradshaw mountains were considered one of the most heavily "mineralized" ranges in the world, according to Bruce M Wilson in his book "Crown King and the Southern Bradshaw's: A complete History".
The Crown King Mine was wrought with one calamity after another. There was no real way to get all that gold down the hill easily. Mules had to haul it. A huge storm hit in February of 1890 washing away valuable ore deposits and damaging the facilities. Three owners got into a bitter dispute and another lost a carriage full of bullion over a rain swollen creek. Nobody got rich making $2 million!
Crown King is 27 miles off Interstate -17 and is geared for weekend warriors in off-road vehicles. There are quite a few vacation homes for people who want to get away from the rat race and want to be alone.
