The Real Estate Next Door, Should You Buy The Property For Sale?

By

No matter how big or small your lot is, your property borders something owned by someone else.

Unless it is an island. So when something bordering you comes up for sale, should you buy it? To add to whatever you own and gain space, more elbow room. Or to remove a less than desirable neigboring property situation.maine homes are big photo

The guy up all night banging a hammer and running grinders doing auto body work or his kids screaming their lungs out like banshees.

And don't forget the barking dogs, three of them that makes you wonder how can the owners be sleeping when you can not bag some ZZzzzz's from the bow wow racket outside your bedroom window?

The neighbors don't mow their lawn next door, they hay it once a year or a flicked cigarettes burns the tall dry grass out front. Keep your home owner's fire policy in force and hope the winds don't shift your direction when the blaze ignites. By accident or on purpose. Nice collection of carsand trucks on blocks to make it easy to give directions to your place. Just look for the junk yard next door, can't miss it.

The multi unit slum lord apartment rental home where everyone comes and goes. Using the place like a flop house. Garbage piling up and blowing, spilling over into your side lawns. Greeting you outdoor in the driveway. Like the droppings from animals that have never been on a leash or don't know what a yard  line and collar look like.

Activity next door to home sweet home or whatever you worked hard to buy and preserve can interfere with the quiet enjoyment.

Can hurt the value and hold down property sales price if you decide to move along and your real estate situation changes. You find yourself in a new life transition and need to replace the place. Maybe get down to one floor, smaller living or heading the other direction. maine real estate vending truck photo

To add to the square footage, bedroom and bath count in your current home sweet home.

Whatever borders you can be a gem and the price you get to buy it for can turn into one neat investment opportunity. That happens right under your nose and can be missed if not noticed or acted on before you hear the disel new moving van backing in with a beep beep beep as the old neighbors wave good by and drive away.

What to consider if it happens. Read the full article on Should You Buy The Property Next Door To You?

Yes, this is a very complicated issue. We live in a rural area and one of our neighbors sought our opinion recently. Her neighbors have a built a quad track and now drive them around it at all hours making noise and kicking up dust. She grows flowers and lavender commercially, so the dust is a real problem. She tried to used civility to explain the problem - basically they flipped her off. Many people move to the country for the freedom to do as they please - and legally, they aren't doing anything wrong. Although, admitedly it's pretty annoying at times. Wondering what the outcome will be as she says they will have to move if it doesn't stop.

The smell of diesel fumes, mmmmm not's so good for the health and the rumbling of an engine or the thermo-king reefer cooling unit on the trail running day and night. Buy it, kill it, get back to just hearing crickets Kristin Johnston - REALTOR® !

That's what I think too Hannah Williams . Just last fall purchase a cute log lake cottage next to waterfront home and having fun tweaking, feathering the nest for company or down the road rental option.
