Throwback Thursday
For Throwback Thursday I wanted to share my photograph taken at a quaint Coca Cola Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. I framed it in this postage stamp frame in red and green to remind all of us how important Coca Cola was for the holidays and parties. The beverage was served inside people's homes, restaurants, schools, entertainment places, events, and even hospitals. Plus, it wasn't just local to these United States, it is known world-wide and offered in possibly all countries, including prisons. And it was served to prestigious people, e.g., politicians, Prime Ministers, Priests, Popes, and Presidential Dignitaries.
This is the view I had while sitting there eating a Grilled Cheese Sandwich and a bowl of soup. Sorry - no Coca Cola or ice cream floats for me. But I savored the memories in thoughts and smells. This photo print shows how busy Coca Cola has been, completely in our lives. I hate to say it, but Coca Cola has been peed on throughout the world.
All the while I was there, I couldn't stop thinking about the logo, branding, advertising, and how much Coca Cola has been in our face for a very long time. It's one of those soda's I never acquired a taste for but the jingle is stuck in my head. I have to admit; the Company did its job influencing the public and making a fortune.
The manufacturers of Coca Cola mastered a taste, so addictive, it became a wealth-building formula for exploding profit margins, addiction and corruption. Ironically, it is still served - only today many people have made healthier choices. When ambitions are so strong, there are consequences. Codes of ethics and standards of practice is a responsibility that must be adhered to by every single business owner, large and small.
There's a book I'd like to recommend for you to read and decide. It's called "The Coke Machine," the dirty truth behind the world's favorite soft drink, by Michael Blanding. The story is a wake-up call to all competitive business owners. For everyone in business, marketing, advertising, agents having business relationships with customers and clients, this book is very informative and educational. As business owners, we are obligated, by duty to treat all parties honestly.
