Get Local with Real Estate Photos

By
Real Estate Technology
As a real estate agent, when you think of photography, you are likely to think immediately of listing photos. While, of course, listing photos should be at the top of your list, have you ever thought about local images as a part of your real estate business?

Every agent in the area is definitely pushing their individual property listings. You're not just selling a house, however, but also your farm area. It's important to look beyond the property lines and promote the environment around it.

Local Images to Take

It may seem like an extra chore to showcase the environment around your listings, but it doesn't have to be difficult. The first thing to think about is what to take photos of.

Think back to the conversations you've had with your clients. What types of outside venues or areas have your clients asked you about when looking at a home? These can be nearby landmarks, entertainment venues, green spaces and more. Buyers want to know what the value is of the actual neighborhood or town and how close they are, so make sure you sell that, too.

Don't forget to listen to your selling clients, too, or to ask their advice. They may have a plethora of favorite haunts to include and may even provide some choice wording for you to use in your promotion.

Getting Local Images

Planning ahead with a list of local places and landmarks will make taking them a lot easier. Map out where these places are then plan to take a photo or two when you are in the area. Consulting your calendar and scheduling a quick photo shoot (with your smartphone) can help make the process easier. Then you can use your list to check off what you've captured.

You can also enlist the help of a local photographer. Create a shot list to assist and make sure you know what your budget is and what it will cover in regards to shots, labor and final product.

Another resource to find local images is your local newspaper or magazine. You may have to pay a fee, so be sure to ask. If you happen to find an image online, contact the source and understand how you need to attribute the photo.

Promoting Local Images

Finally, it's time to include your collection of local images in your real estate marketing. Here are a few ways to do just that.
  • Include in your listings. Don't forget to mention it in your description (but don't take up too much verbiage to do it).
  • Post on social media. Tag locations, organizations or businesses tied to the image as well as relevant hashtags.
  • Create a blog post around the image. Or do a collection of images in one post around different topics. For example, consolidate all entertainment venues in a post, all green spaces, etc.
