Being a member of the Highlands Ranch community means you are expected to attend certain events at certain times throughout the year.  These events directly take community members and residents feedback and directly synthesize them into the proceedings for the following quarters.  If you have ever been on an HOA board, this is similar.  We know all about HOA’s in Highness Ranch property management.  It is something you deal with on a day to day to day to day basis.  Here are the upcoming Committee events that will be pressing.

The strongest element of city council is the ability to open all these meetings to the public.  The Planning and Economic Infrastructure Development and Operations Policy Committee meeting will be held at the Highlands Ranch court room on Monday November 6 from 5-9pm.  There will be multiple events taking place during this time.  Everyone from the City Manager Budget Presentation Group to the Golf Advisory Council will have room on this agenda for the night.  The sequenced itinerary of events can be found on the HRCA website or on any of the handout material found at the actual meeting site.

IF you have not been to the Highlands Ranch court room before you will be in for a treat.  It is a very well put together building, featuring the highest ceilings in any municipal building in this zip code.  There are ample opportunities for light refreshments via vending machines, so don’t worry about the long run time.  You are advised to dress in compatible layers as the temperature can change depending on the room and time of year.  I know for a face that the Planning and Zoning Commission room has always run hot over the years.  They seem to pump the heat out with reckless abandon, so have removeable outer layers if you are attending that room.

It can be intimidating at first but just know that everyone else in the room has the same goal in mind.  We will be attending this meeting as we have for the last 4 years.  There are multiple events that are worth voting for and making sure that a voice is being heard.  There are votes cast after the meeting at almost any session.  There is a lot of work being done behind the scenes to ensure that communities stay in top shape and that the results accurately reflect the wishes and thoughts of all the community’s many residents.  It is important that you be a part of events like this if you wish to see actual change in your community.  These neighborhoods are held to a high standard and will continue to do so over the years, provided this much enthuses and support is amply provided.  We see it at almost every meeting.  There are a few first-time home buyers’, who have just moved here and are really wondering what it is all about.  They may have been on an HOA board in the past, and maybe that has soured their opinion about the public pricewise.  But we have had post Committee interviews with people telling us that they were shocked at how smooth everything runs, and how many people are heard.  If you have ever been to a town hall meeting you will know just how unruly they can get.  Especially if something that is truly unruly is on the ticket, we can have a lot of shouting, or talking over one another, or even worse, just a failure of conversation.  These failures of intuition do nothing but hamper the democratic process of improving our cities.  The City Manager Budget presentation is always full of the most go-getting residents in Highlands Ranch.  The presentation is also treated with a lot of respect.  The presentation has been updated over the years to reflect all the changing rules and aesthetic choices a community may undergo.  This is so the content is never stale and instead, always modern and up to date.  We are in a world of ever changing technology and 24-hour news cycles, so it would make sense that are community government positions would hold to that as well.

Just be sure to take a visit to one of these if you have the time.  Remember, attendance is free and never mandatory.  Sometimes life gets in the way and that’s ok.  Nothing that is discussed is enacted overnight.  These things take careful consideration, time and a whole lot of support to get moving.  You can be involved at any level of the process that you feel comfortable with.  It is just something that everyone should at least experience once in their lives.  It is not like attending jury duty.  Although jury duty is your civic duty, that process can be tiresome and cumbersome to the work day, especially if you are selected for a long trial.  This is quite different and voluntary, not mandatory.
