Has anyone actually gotten their Tax Rebate check or deposit yet? or have you gotten someone else's check or deposit? I know I paid my taxes and I got a letter from the IRS saying that if I paid my taxes I should be getting a rebate before June 08. How much depending upon if I am single, married and with dependents? Now I read that the IRS has directly deposited funds into the wrong accounts? how is this possible?

If you used a direct deposit to pay your taxes then you should have gotten your tax rebate directly back into the same account right? Well Im waiting for my check. Today is the 16th of May. I read on the IRS.GOV website that it should have been mailed today, May 16th because of my social security number. Is our government so big and or inept that they cant handle their paying customers- the American Public?! maybe the government should be run more like a business?

Haven't gotten mine. Should have had it by May 9th. Don't have a clue what's going on. Now I am wondering if someone else got my check. wow. Do you have a link to where you read about that?  I read that they gave some people the wrong amount, but not putting into wrong accounts.

I did receive mine on May 9th.  Of course I do not have a clue either but you will get it soon.  It's the government.

Wendy hope you get your tax rebate soon. I think I heard it on the news on yahoo.com but check out your tv news channels or online websites for the latest updates. I'm going to check irs.gov website again now that I think about it!

I thought most realtors made too much to get rebates. I need to finish mine by the end of June.

Intersting info Stephen, none of it applies to me. I guess what does apply is to just wait and see. Either way, just curious to understand it all.

LOL at Eric. Yeah, right.

I haven't received mine yet either; starting to wonder! I also know if a person didn't pay estimated taxes DURING 2007 they are entitled to half of what they would have otherwise received.

I haven't received mine, but, I did not file until Apr 15. The IRS website indicates it will take at least six weeks after filing to get the rebate. That means that they should dd it to me on about May 27. I won't hold my breath.

Stephen - I am assuming the question about government ineptitude is rhetorical

Tori - where did you get the 1/2 if we didn't pay estimated taxes?

3:55pm • #9

Yeah, I am really looking forward to that check.  I think that I am OK, but the check would be nice!

Tax Rebate Update- I found this article online at Yahoo Buzz:

Usually a missive with an Internal Revenue Service return address is about as welcome as a dusting of poison ivy.

Offer a little stimulus, however, and taxpayers can't wait. So, understandably, initial reports that 15,000 taxpayers would not be getting an IRS love letter sent the Buzz into a tizzy. Fortunately, that number turned out to be much smaller: Only 1,500 checks have been inadvertently wired to the wrong accounts. (Don't even think of keeping it!) Out of 30 million bits of ... um ... stimuli, that's an error rate of just .005%, give or take a decimal point. At least the IRS didn't toy with taxpayer affections like the agency did back in 2001.

Except there's another small snafu: The IRS also 'fessed up to forgetting to send out 300-dollar child refunds to as many as 350,000 households. Before you ask: The IRS will mail another letter copping to the error, and the checks will follow in July. The upside: The U.S. Post Office must be raking it in from its repeat customer.

By the way, if you did get a check but not your full share, SavvySugar points out that the IRS has kindly deducted back taxes or other debts in advance.

Despite all this, the government agency should feel swamped with affection. How have people loved the IRS in the past month? Let us count a few of the searches: "2008 tax rebate checks tax return" (+14,579%), "government rebate checks 2008" (+13,085%), "tax stimulus checks" (+5,798%), "federal tax rebate" (+652%), "600 dollar tax refund 2008" (+566%), "bush tax refund 2008" (+300%), and "2008 federal kicker checks rebate checks" (off the charts). The most frequent query? "When will I get my tax rebate check."

The lovefest may not stop. SavvySugar notes that a rebate repeat may be possible next year, in this IRS article found under the section "Not eligible at the current time?" Who says you can't buy love?

I'm still waiting!! I did my taxes through TurboTax and from what I've found out, that means I will get a paper check in the mail. No direct deposits if you had your prep fee taken from a refund.

I don't know if it is true....but I heard that we borrowed the stimulus money from China...maybe that's why it's taking so long to get the check :)

Lori, In fact that what we are doing. They however are not in charge of the funds.  If they were if would already be on our shores and in the stores. Our Government is doing it and it takes time and plenty of forms.

Stephen:  Got mine, but it seemed to be short what I was expecting.  Came direct deposit.  Oh well.  Did I really expect the government to give me what they SAID they were going to give me?

11:07am • #18

Chris good you got yours. Seems if you paid your taxes by direct deposit you got your rebate the same way speeding up the process.

5:31pm • #19

I am not to concern over getting the check even though the IRA said they would be sending to us after May 23rd.

We've already spent the check by paying off our INCOME TAX...

I so much wanted to buy that 42" Screen - LOL

5:41pm • #20

If you paid your taxes on april 15th you are supposed to give Uncle Sam 5 to 7 weeks (May 27th) to send out your tax rebate check. At least thats what it says on the irs.gov website!

Shayne the IRA doesnt send checks but the IRS does! :)

Who would have thought that now in Sept 2008 we would have bankruptcies and federal takeovers of some of the biggest financial institutions in the U.S.?

According to the meda this was all started by the subprime mortgage mess and irresponsible mortgage companies! where will this stop?

Disabled Veterans out there who didnt make enough income and didnt get a tax rebate. If you receive VA disability benefits that are not taxable you may be eligible to amend your 2007 tax return with an IRS 1040X form to include these benefits and receive a tax rebate!

The same may be true for anyone receiving Social Security benefits as well!
