Free Leaf Disposal - Clark County, Washington

By
Industry Observer with Nature As Neighbors

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away; Lengthen night and shorten day;

Every leaf speaks bliss to me Fluttering from the autumn tree.

I shall smile when wreaths of snow Blossom where the rose should grow;

I shall sing when night’s decay Ushers in a drearier day. Fall, leaves, fall

                                                                                             -Emily Brontë

Tis the season. The leaves are piling up in many Clark County yards and blowing onto our streets. Leaf-clogged storm drains and plugged culverts often lead to flooding. Therefore, officials remind residents that raking, sweeping, or blowing leaves onto county roads violates code and constitutes littering.

To help with the problem, Clark County and the city of Vancouver offer disposal coupons that allow residents to drop off up to 5 cubic yards of leaves ( for free ) at one of four locations. The program runs from October 1 through December 31, 2017.

City Bark, 2419 N.E. Andresen Road, (360) 253-8461. 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday in October; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in November and December. Check in advance for holiday hours.

• H & H Wood Recyclers, 8401 N.E. 117th Ave., (360) 892-2805. 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday in October; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday in November and December; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Check in advance for holiday hours.

• Triangle Resources, 812 S.E. Union St., Camas, (360) 834-7253. 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Check in advance for holiday hours.

• West Van Materials Recovery Center, 6601 N.W. Old Lower River Road, (360) 737-1727. 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Check in advance for holiday hours.

Leaves must be emptied from bags at the disposal sites. Free disposal is for leaves only. Regular disposal fees apply to other yard debris and mixed loads.

Please remember to cover your loads before driving to one of the four disposal sites.

Other disposal options include applying leaves as winter mulch or using yard debris collection carts available from Waste Connections of Washington.

You can print your leaf disposal coupon here.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD I think I would have more than a truckload if I lived in your area. The volume limitation is a deterrent. Yard fires anyone?

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386 Haha. Those of us with a lot of leaves tend to live in more rural locations. The bulk of our leaves turn into garden compost, but yes, there are folks who burn them in their firepit area. :)

All those beautiful leaves have to be disposed of somehow, so this is a good service. Not everyone can compost or needs them for mulch.

Hi Debb & Bernie! Wonderful list to offer your Clark County, WA residents as the leaves do pile up very quickly! I used to think that if I would just wait until they all fell, I could knock them all out in one day! Yeah, my grass wasn't too happy with that plan! LOL

Absolutely gorgeous shot too - that is a keeper!

Hope you both have a wonderful week!

Gorgeous picture, Debb. In Charlotte, they actually pick up the leaves if properly bagged. You just need to call the city and leave it at the curb on the appropriate pick-up day for yard waste.
