Sacramento Realtors Are Not Safe in Their Own Car

By
Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

When a Sacramento Realtor encounters a stressful situation during the day, there are always things to learn from it. What I learned from my ordeal yesterday is three-fold. First, don't drive down a dead-end street in a luxury vehicle, even in broad daylight, into a depressed neighborhood you don't know. Second, don't stop for a person who seems to be in distress, needing assistance, who is waving down your car.

Third, consider buying a gun and learning how to shoot it. My husband asked me if I would be around this afternoon to accept deliveries, and I asked him why? Was he sending me a hand gun? You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Assault in Carmichael on a Sacramento Realtor's Car While She's Driving.

Karen Feltman Amazingly, I completed my inspection of the seller's house. It wasn't until I went across the street to inspect the other property and that seller insisted I call the police right away that the gravity of the situation sunk in.

Pat Champion I firmly believe, much to my shock, if I had a gun in my car and he did this again, one step toward me and he'd be dead. I did not think I could shoot a person but this experience told me that I definitely could. That's a scary thing to learn about yourself. I did not believe I could be that "cold," but I could.

OMG Elizabeth- that's frightening!  I'm glad that you're ok. I'm from Texas and while I don't want to shoot anyone I do know that if I'm in a situation, I want something more than my loud scream to protect me. So, yes, when Larry traveled every week, I slept with my own shotgun under the bed.

I firmly believe there really aren't any neighborhoods completely immune from this type of behavior.  The opiod epidemic hasn't only hit the poor.  Unfortunately irratic behavior is causing many to do things they might not otherwise do.  I wish I had a perfect answer to all this, Elizabeth, but I don't.  I'm just glad you are safe!

Good evening Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents ,

Scary and frightening..so glad to hear you are safe..our world has some real crazies out there. My business model has changed over the years  looking to be close to my 80% listing and 20% buyer goal and part of it is for this reason!

Kathy Streib I'm thinking about taking shooting lessons. There is a place in Sacramento where you can rent a gun and all of the equipment, and they will teach you. I'd like to explore how comfortable I can get with it. Although, I don't know if I'll be sleeping with a shotgun under my bed, LOL. They say it's a better weapon if you want to make sure you hit somebody.

Myrl Jeffcoat Thanks for your concern. Would you like to go to the firing range with me? Shoot off a few rounds, take a lesson?

Dorie Dillard I stopped working directly with buyers about 7 years ago and have never regretted it for one moment. My complete focus is listings now. I'm much happier for it.

It's rare for a seller to say they don't want to sell, so they close, unlike some buyers. In other words, it's easier to sell a house than to find a house to buy.

In regards to your question in comment #15.  I'm a pretty good shot.  When I was a bride, my husband was an avid sportsman.  We often would target practice.  Once he handed me a 44 magnum revolver that had quite a kick to it.  I hated that thing, so the first time I simply lined up the sight to the target, shut my eyes and squeezed.  I thought the man was going to come unglued because I shut my eyes.  But, the shot hit dead center in the bullseye.  I'm not much of a gun enthusiast though.

So, do you have to disclose this crazy "neighbor" in your new listings? Yep, we have to be careful when we are out there by ourselves, in luxury cars or not. I'd follow through on your complaint, this guy sounds really on road rage edge.

Oh my gosh, Elizabeth - I'm SO glad you're okay - forget the car! I'm sorry your car got assaulted but, geez, he could have reached into your window and grabbed you - thank God he didn't!

You listen to your hubby - he's smart and he cares about your safety -as do the rest of us! Hugs, Elizabeth and I do hope you landed both of those listings too - after that, you deserve it!

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents Thank heavens you are ok!  There are some pretty nutty folks out there.  I used to take their testimony.  You cannot believe what goes through some people's minds.  Please be careful - your life is worth far more than your car.

Elizabeth, What a scary ordeal, and hope the police do arrest him, and would sweet to hear he already has a record, on parole and gets the book thrown at him.  What a jerk!

Michael Jacobs Most of the crazy people I run into are fairly harmless. This was the first time I was afraid for my life while working, though.

Myrl Jeffcoat In my early 20s, I went hunting for quail with friends in Colorado. I had some kind of rifle. We walked for miles before we realized none of us knew what a quail looked like. We decided to shoot at trees. I shot the sky and fell over. The kick from that rifle on my shoulder was painful, too.

Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® Well, he's not really a neighbor. He lives outside of the gated community. These listings won't happen until next spring and maybe he'll move away.

Elyse Berman, PA, CRS That's why when he started screaming at me again in my seller's driveway that I just walked into the house. Seemed the safest thing to do.

Joan Cox The police aren't going to do anything to this guy. They asked what I wanted and I said I wanted them to go over to his house and tell him it's not OK to attack vehicles and / or stalk drivers. Detective Ceja said "Yes, ma'am, we'll do that."

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. They just lie to you. Placate you.
