We were honored and priviliged to have been invited to attend the kick off dinner of the 27th annual Legends Invitational Golf Tournament. This event is held at Spanish Bay Inn at Pebble Beach (photo above is the golf course) located at the 17 mile drive on the Monterey Peninsula.  This golf invitational benefits the Navy Seals.

This  is a one-of-a-kind experience in which NFL Legends, Sports Greats and Navy SEALs are paired as “Celebrity Captains” with every foursome, presenting four first-class days of exceptional golf and entertainment.

In addition, the SEALS demonstrated their tactical maneuvers,  jumping out of a plane.  We were amazed that all four landed standing up! As the SEAL holding the American flag was approaching land, the band played, The Star Spangled Banner.  There was not a dry eye in the audience!

And then a helicopter appeared! Several SEALS jumped out of a helicopter as it grazed the grass and demonstrated a take down.  Raven, a Belgian Malinois was on the scene as an integral part of the demonstration!  He was resting here, and enjoying the admiration and all the ear scratches we all gave him!

In the audience were three medal of honor recipients who gave short talks. The Medal of Honor was created during the American Civil War and is the highest military decoration presented by the United States government to a member of its armed forces.

The recipient must have distinguished themselves at the risk of their own life above and beyond the call of duty in action against an enemy of the United States. Due to the nature of this medal, it is commonly presented  posthumously. (Wikipedia including the photo of the medal of honor/public domain)

All three emphasized the fact that FREEDOM is written in blood! One of the recipients further stated that they are fighting to protect our rights to protest and to have the freedom we enjoy!  He also said, "Please respect the flag our troops fight under, and we are the only nation that drapes the flag over the body of a fallen soldier!"

Needless to say, it was a very emotional night for both of us!

Kathy Streib one of our really good friend chosen to  study at the Air Force Academy.  He told us that as a young cadet, he learned that the momen someone with a Medal of Honor walked in, everyone stood up including the Generals and the Admirals even if the person had a lower rank...Last night as they were introduced we all stood up,  It was such a natural act.  One of the gentleman said, that in a sense they all felt awkward wearing those ribbons, because they felt those medal belonged to the American people.  I really found out that my mascara wad pretty much tear proof.  LOL A

Alexandra having been at the USMA most of our teachers were Vietnam heroes not just Veterans, very few were awarded the Medal of Honor while they were alive, most received the lesser grade which is the Silver Star, the joke used to be if you received the Silver Star you walked away alive... if you got the Medal of Honor well....you know. Endre Barath, Jr. I am glad that the three we met were alive.  One of them served in the army and was very well spoken.  He had a great sense of humor and was an excellent speaker.  Ron and I spent quite a bit of time chatting with him and his sweet wife.  The second one was Navy  and his injury was visible on his face. He was soft spoken, you would never peg him for a hero, and his wife was lovely too.  The third one was tall built like a line backer with a tall lovely wife.  He was the funster, and the most expressive of the 3, passionate and jovial.  I was impressed by all of them.  It was a very moving experience! I was very happy that my mascara was truly waterproof as I gave it a rigorous test.  A

Nina Hollander The night before we were at the French Laundry, in the kitchen, where the three recipients gave the same message to us and the 30 plus kitchen staff.  Each man and woman teared up.  Many, came to our country to live the American dream.  And they all wanted to shake the hands of the attending recipients.   I can now recommend the strengtth of my waterproof mascara.  A

Brian England the golf courses are gorgeous.  We attended a wedding at the golf course at The Pebble Beach resort.  It was held on the 17th hole.  And the view was spectacular to say the least...I would be happy walking with someone playing there, just to take in the beauty of it. A

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386 I was moved the night before when we met these men, and again at Pebble Beach...It was one of those moments that moved both of us.  They have a tradition of bagpipe playing at the Pebble Beach Resorts, and the bagpipe was playing along with the band the national anthem...the mournful sound added to the tears of the millions that died in the freedom fight.  A

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD the emotions are still raw in both of us.  My dinner mate at the event was a retired SEAL who still does these demos because he loves sky diving was telling about Iraq and the horrors there.  But he said Iraq seemed like Los Angeles because Afghanistan was so horrible , he could not even describe it by comparison.   He did two tours there...And hurray for the mascara I use, it kept me from looking like a racoon at the end of the evening. Sheri Sperry - MCNE® Thank you for your comments.  I think that this moment is etched in both of our hearts, and I switched by Amazon charity to the Navy Seals museum.  Besides education and exhibits, they take care of their own when it comes to retrofitting a home to make it wheelchair friendly etc.   This event is the brainchild of our real estate clients.  They orchestrate the whole thing from corporate sponsors to bringing the NFL Legends.  They also started in their community a scholarship fund for the kids of Navy Seals.  A
