Thanks to Debbie Reynolds for issuing the 12 days of Thanksgiving Challenge. It’s going to be fun to read what our friends here on AR are most thankful for.
Since I begin and end each day going over things I’m thankful for, this is an easy one.
Right now I’m most thankful for the fact that it looks like my child will finally be finished with his project in California and be home for Thanksgiving.
He’s a General Foreman for a power line building company – and he’s been working down near the Mexican border since Springtime. In fact, he’s so close to the border that every now and then Verizon tries to charge him for International calls!
He did make it home for a few days three times over the summer, but the time was all too short.
Mom, Dad, and his girlfriend are eager to see him, but I’d be willing to bet that when he shows up, the most outwardly enthusiastic member of the family will be Puppy.
This is a dog who adopted Chad last winter when he was out in the middle of nowhere in North Texas. He’d be very glad to be a “Job Dog” and was happy to go with him to Montana and back to Texas early in the year, but alas – dogs are not welcome on BLM land, so he had to stay with Grandma and Grandpa while Chad went to California.
I can hardly wait to see this joy on his face again…
Meanwhile… as I look forward to my own child being home for Thanksgiving, my heart goes out to all the parents, siblings, spouses, and children whose loved ones will not be here – either because they’re in some scary place serving in our military, or because they won’t be here again, ever.
I give thanks that my children are safe and healthy, and when I can’t see them or be with them, we can talk on the phone.
