When I want REAL Texas BBQ, I hop in the car with the family and take a ride to Cooper's in Llano.  Man it doesn't get any better anywhere in the world for BBQ.  Now this is saying something, because I am a native Texan and have never had better anywhere; anytime.

You start your BBQ adventure at Coopers in line outside where you will file past an opened pit with all sorts of great BBQ delights inside: Brisket, Chicken, Pork Chops, Ribs, Steaks, Sausage - You name it!  Its' all there!  And fresh and hot!  You point to what you want and choose whether to have it dunked in sauce or not (the sauce IS to die for!).  Then they slap it on a tray and you carry it inside.

The line inside allows you to select other goodies: Potato Salad (awesome), Corn on the Cob, Cole Slaw, Deserts, Drinks and much more.  They weigh your meat selections after slicing and wrapping them in butcher paper and you pay out and are off to the dining areas, either inside or out.

Don't miss the jalapeno pinto beans and sauce station at the back of the inside dining area (all you can eat); They are amazing and very yummy!  You can have all the bread you want as well.  We usually take home plenty of leftover meats and a couple of containers of beans and sauce!

Trust me folks, this place is worth the drive - Go enjoy with the family soon!  You won't be sorry!

Steve - You beat me to Cooper's; it is the best of the best. They just purchased some land in New Braunfels to expand Cooper's to New Braunfels, now we won't have to drive so far to eat that great BBQ. You did an excellent job to find the best BBQ place in Texas. Who would have though Llano had such a famous place. You can't beat that mesquite flavor.

Do you think there is only one place to eat in Texas?  I have never been to your place so I will have to reserve judgement.  The one I knew about was in Bryan/College Station named Tom's.  I don't know if it is still there or not, but it served really good food.  Your posts are always very informative and well written.  Wish I were closer so I could try it out as you have made me hungry (which is not hard to do).  Thanks.  Maybe you could send some samples.

Steve, great post on Cooper's.  I've never been up that way to try it.  I'm running way behind -- don't know if I'll get mine done.  :(
