12 Days of ThanksGiving 2017- ActiveRain Challenge (my father’s love)

I am thankful for my father’s love for me.

I lost my father when I was 6500 miles away from home serving in the United States Navy. At first I didn't know who had passed because we were weathering out a storm in the Southwest Pacific Ocean. And I had been granted emergency leave as soon as we got back to Port. It's probably the longest 18 hours of my life, not knowing who had passed. I just knew that everything would be okay.

When we picked up the next satellite pass (18 hours later) I found out it had been my father who had passed and I had a very calm  feeling pour over me and I knew once again but everything will be okay.

I was only 22 years old and I had no idea how much my father had not taught me about being a man or a father; somehow we missed that part and I kind of had to play it by ear when I was raising my son and daughter. But I did learn one important thing and that is the family unit is all so important and gets even more important as we grow older.

My reward has been to see my daughter and my son become outstanding parents and I am truly proud of both of them.

Good morning again Paul. It is funny how we learn what we miss as we get older. Beautiful post and picture.

Paul,

I had goosebumps reading your story.  I would have paid big bucks to have my father another day or two, but I know he would not have let me do that. A

I am sorry for your loss of your father at such a young age, Paul.  I'm glad however, that you had your father's love.  Like you, I was young when my dad passed.  I was 23.  I lost my mother at 32.

As we grow older we figure out all the lessons we learned without even knowing it.  You were very lucky to have such a wonderful dad.  He left a wonderful legacy.  Thanks for sharing, Paul.  Happy Thanksgiving!
