Good job..

My husband and I are currently on the hunt for a home. We are looking to downsize in both square footage and monthly expense. The dream is early retirement and to travel the country.

The hunt has been extremely frustrating. As you all know, inventory is at a low, causing prices to rise.

But price and availability aren't the only things causing us stress.

Our agent, Donna, is a lifelong friend.

Luckily Donna and I are able to laugh about a lot of what's been happening, but I feel we are all shaving some time off our life expectancy trying to make this dream happen.

The most recent example:

House was listed three weeks ago. Only one photo, an exterior shot.

Showings to start November 7.

Price and location were right. Description sounded good. (But, then they always do.)

When there are no interior shots most potential buyers assume the worst, and I did. However, I asked Donna to find out if more pics were going to be posted, and to schedule a showing for us on the 7th.

On November 4 Donna was told the agent would have pics as soon as interior work on the home was completed. She hoped to take pics on the 9th and was delaying showings until November 10.

I asked her to schedule a showing for us on the 10th.

Donna left a message. Two days later she got the reply that the house was not going to be ready for the 10th. Elderly owner. Things were taking longer than anticipated.

We continued to wait to hear from this agent for 4 more days, only to be told that she "hopes to be able to schedule showings on November 13."

That never happened.

On November 15 my husband sent the agent an email asking why the house had been on the market for over 2 weeks if it wasn't ready to be shown.

When she called him to reply, we learned enough to know we were done chasing this house.

I'll spare you all the details she shared, because none of it really mattered after he heard the words "bed bugs ".

I actually feel bad for that agent. She is under a lot of stress. She obviously underestimated the work needed to prepare the listing and overestimated her clients' ability to work in a timely manner.

Yes, there were unexpected challenges, but the unexpected is be expected in real estate.

Listing that house prematurely, before it was 100% show ready, created a stressful situation for all involved.

That's just one example. Disappointing and frustrating seems to be the norm.

Calls and emails not returned.

MLS photos so tiny you can't see them.

Deceiving photos.

Information provided not accurate.

Listing status not updated when pending or under contract.

My husband actually knew more about the property line than the listing agent did at one home we visited.

Throughout all of it, Donna has been wonderful. A true professional!

When my husband spoke with that other agent, she said that Donna is "doing a great job representing you.

I told Donna, and she laughed and said "that means I'm a pain in the ass. "

My reply was "I wouldn't have you any other way!"

I'm so thankful for my PITA buyers' agent.

I can't imagine doing this without her!
