Lighting up Columbus Tree Lighting and Holiday Lights Through the Season
It’s almost December, where the temperature drops suddenly and we have to get use to the sun setting before 5:00 pm. The advantage is; we get to enjoy the lights of the season. Here are upcoming community tree lightings and other holiday events that revolve around outdoor holiday lighting.
Worthington is hosting a Holiday Open House the sunday after Thanksgiving, November 26. Activities include carriage rides, carolers, snacks and beverages from local eaterie. Santa will be outside the Worthington Inn. The open house runs from 12:00-5:00pm. Join everyone at the Village Green at 5:00 pm for carols and the tree lighting at 5:30 pm
Clintonville
Clintonville is hosting Holidayville 2017 on December 3. More than 30 retailers will host sales, refreshments, live music and more. A Jolly Trolley offers free transportation around the neighborhood. Enjoy local favorites like Weilands’ Market, Blue & Fig, Mozarts and Studio 35 Cinema & Drafthouse.
Holidayville Runs Sunday December 3 from 12-4 pm
Downtown
The annual holiday festival at the Ohio Statehouse December 7 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Free and open to the public, guests can tour the grounds of the Statehouse, visit Santa and community mascots, enjoy carols and refreshments.
The Huntington Holiday train returns to it’s home at the Main Library. November 29th is their holiday open house with cocoa, treats and a special visitor for storytime. The Topiary Garden which is right next to the library will be lit up and feature live reindeer The event is free and you can RSVP at their website.
The Huntington Holiday Train will be on display during regular library hours until January 4. With 280 feet of track , 8 foot castles and impressive water features, you’ll want to make sure to stop by and see the train at the library this season
Westerville
Live holiday music, candle lighting ceremony and much more. Music by Paige’s Playhouse and the Westerville Community Band. The tree lighting this year will take place in the newly completed Civic Green of Westerville City Hall Friday December 1 at 7pm
Feel the magic of the holiday season at Village Lights in historic German Village. There is be storytimes with Santa and Mrs. Claus and well as performances by the Mighty Troubadours.
Catch a pedal bus to see the lights or follow the luminaries from shop to shop to check off your holiday gift lists. And don’t miss Striezelmarkt! The outdoor Christmas market and the Schmidt’s Sausage truck. Parking is available at the AfriCentric School and Big Red Rooster with shuttle service into the Village
Village Lights presented by Schmidt’s starts December 3rd, from 5-9pm
Ongoing Light Displays
When the sun goes down on the Columbus Zoo, the animals sleep with the lights on! Wildlights runs until January 1 and start at 5:00pm Over 1 million LED lights illuminate the zoo as well as animated light shows, Santa, reindeer and more.
Please note the zoo is closed for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. It is open on Christmas Eve during the day, but will not be presenting Wildlights that evening.
Downtown Columbus
Both the Columbus Riverfront and the Columbus Commons will be light up from December 2 till the New Year. Whether you are in town to catch the Nutcracker or enjoy dinner, walk a few blocks and enjoy the lights
New this year! The Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival will light up the Natural Resources Park with 39 larger-than-life illuminated displays crafted by Chinese artisans.
In addition to lanterns, nightly performances, and handicrafts, the event will also offer food and beverages. Our menu includes a variety of Chinese and traditional fair food, as well as assorted beverages.
