Motor scooters popular in efforts to save on gas

I think Ceil and I are changing our mode of transportation to save fuel: What do ya think?

I solved the problem for all my Texas friends....Vespa Scooters...gas or electric. They are fun and economical, economical is the key to this blog. With a gas 4 stroke gas engine you can go shopping, carry your clients to view homes, use for your inspection and still be able to save money.

Vespa Scooters I'm using Vespa as an example because I heard on the news today that "Vespa" sales are skyrocketing. Here is a portion of an article that I read... Today, Vespas, like other motor scooters, are the beneficiaries of the increasing willingness of US consumers to buy motor scooters. Sales of motor scooters have doubled since the year 2000. Rising fuel prices are being given the lion's share of the credit for the increasing popularity of motor scooters.

How about this one with this luxuary sidecar?

How about this one with or without the flower? I can use this one for my inspections but without the flower please. Now this one is top of the line. You can even get a cover for the sidecar so your clients won't get wet on rainy days.

Wow! Great colors and even a rear view mirrow. I like the Red One.

"Green is in" ... a lot of people have become environmentally-friendly these days. You can say that it has now become trendy and chic to travel in these "green" modes of transportation.

Pollution free ... Because electric vehicles run on batteries and do not burn fossil fuels as their main system of propulsion, they provide the opportunity to reduce your personal environmental impact and improve local air quality.

Quiet ... There's nothing better than cruising down the streets and the only thing you hear is the wind blowing in the air. Electric motors are quiet and give you an entirely different feeling when riding. Many gas-powered personal vehicles are louder than lawn-mowers. Quiet electric vehicles seem to glide down the road with ease and are welcomed in most communities.

You can even consider an "electric" scooter.

This is what it is going to come to if we don't get this fuel situation under control. Your choices, carpool, mass transportation or a way to travel and get around more economical.

This could be our future

I can not even ride a bike anymore so I guess I'll have to get roller skates for Ceil and myself

Cute - great idea. I used to ride a moped when I was a teenager and loved it. Problem is the helmet hair.

Hey Lisa - Glad you popped in. We felt we all needed a little laugh; Ceil said to tell you to get some "super-dooper" hair spray. The truth, this could happen, you see them riding scooters in other countries and we may have to do the same.

This way we would have some extra money to spend instead of putting it in the gas tank.

Haha nice post. I owned a little Honda bike in high school and always had a really good time with it. I should look into a Vespa, I'm just thinking it won't go as fast..

Cindy - One good thing.....you won't have to worry about getting "speeding ticket". Your biggest concern would be getting run over by an 18-wheeler. Ooooops, not a nice thought.

Howdy Carl and Ceil

My friend, that is a hoot of an idea.

I like that one with the little trailer, in the back of it.

But like you the flower's would have to go.

I don't think they would do very will on a lot of the road's up here.

Hey Dale - I must have missed you last night.

Last time we were in Rockport we saw a group of about 15-20 that came up riding Vespa's; they said they belonged to a Vespa Club and they all gathered once a month for a fun ride. If fuel prices keep going up we may have to look at seriously. (ha, ha) I figure the one with the pull- along trailer could handle our ladders but without the flower. Sure has downsized from the Carl Mobile days.

Stay off the freeway...

Based on the size of some of the potholes here in Dallas I would be terrified that I would fall into a pothole riding a Vespa and never be seen or heard from again! (But they sure are cute... and only slightly larger than a Smart Car... LOL!)

Steve - I could see it now, Vespa and driver lost in giant pothole. Maybe you would also be featured on Good Morning America. Oh well, gotta have a little fun sometimes. One thing we do know, we need to downsize to a smaller vehicle and we'll always remember the good old days.

Hey, I was worried about my little Kia I used to use to show property until I got my Lexus. NOW we are going to Vespas? I can see it now. If that comes to pass, I'm leaving real estate sales and going into building multi story condos like they use in urban areas. I think I'd make more money than hauling my clients in a side car! :)

Hey Ricki, get a sidecar on both sides to help you stay level. Ceil likes the one with the pull-along and the flowers. Lord help us all if this comes to pass. They keep showing some of these little cars on TV, they look like toys. Yiper, it may be time to retire; sure glad I'm not raising a family. We keep telling our kids to slow down on their spending and save for a rainy day. The rainy day may be here before we know it.

You know something? While that wouldn't work well for us inspectors going to an inspection I would love to have one of those with a cart on the back for general "about town" type shopping.

Vince - I bet you could get it rigged out to use for inspections within 15 miles from your home. It could be used for lots of things. We just need to change our way of thinking. Of course, the flower has to GO.

Howdy Carl

I know these are a little funny to talk about, but folk's may just need to think about really doen something like this for real.

This was said in Washington D.C. just the other day.

Gas up to $7.00 a gallon by med. to late summer, and up to $12.00 a gallon by winter.

This is not a good thing to think about at all my friend.

I've been looking at scooters for my 16-year-old son. If I could get away with it (and believe me, I've been thinking), I would make a scooter my full-time vehicle.

Rhonda - We may all be driving or riding a scooter of some type; we may not have a choice if the price of fuel keeps going up. Things are changing daily in this country. Since I wrote this post a few days ago things have changed dramatically in this country in more ways then we can imagine.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend and thanks for commenting. I always try to put a little humor to get my point across. We have to pass the driving or riding test first, and don't know if we will pass.

Trey - Ya Right....only thing that I question, what do I do when one of those 18 Wheelers run up on the back of me and I have no where to go. Maybe for the coast or ranch or running up to the C store on the corner. Last time I bought matching bicycles for me and Ceil to ride through the subdivision and down to the lake, we only rode once. The dogs chased us down the hill and Ceil fell off going too fast trying to get ahead of the dogs. So much for the bicycle adventure.

I've been riding motorcycles for 48 years. I will use my Goldwing for condo inspections now and then. Tried to use it for regular house inspections but the ladder kept hitting the cars I passed while splitting lanes. Since I carried it around my neck, it was atarting to leave a mark from spinning around all the time.

Guess I'll stick to condos on the bike.

I can see you now going down the road with that ladder (not good) besides it may leave you looking like you have tattoo around your neck. (ha ha). Maybe we need smaller ladders.

This fuel situation gets worse everyday. We definitely have to make some changes.

Carl & Ceil I would love it in the summer, but come winter it is going to get cold up here.

Carl and Ceil, I also love the red one, but I might need the eletric one because of the price of gas. Hey how is your weather?

Jack - I agree, good for summer and spring but really cold during the winter. Some of these auto's aren't much bigger, just a little more steel on the outside. No telling what we will be driving five years from now.

Diane - We were lucky - IKE went to Houston - Galveston - Louisiana area. It's only Sat. morning so receiving news slowly as they are able to check things out now that it is daylight. I did hear a few minutes ago that 90% of Houston residents are without power. Haven't heard anything yet from Galveston and Louoisiana area.

If I used the pull along trailer I could carry my tools, but with a twelve foot long (24 foot) extension ladder strapped to it, going around corners would be exciting. I also think that it would have trouble making it up some of the hills here. Oh well, I guess I could get out and walk alongside the thing. It would make for a long day getting to some of the more outlying inspection sites; I'd have to raise prices to cover the extra time involved.

David - I agree the ladder is the problem, going forward will work but turning in close spaces will be a problem. Sure would save on gas. Thanks for stopping and hope your doing well.
