The Scoop: The Downtown Raleigh Tree Lighting Celebration, produced by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) in partnership with the City of Raleigh, draws thousands of people to the downtown area. As a kickoff to the winter season with a giant inflatable slide, a visit from Santa, a Gingerbread House competition and of course the Mayor's Official Tree Lighting ceremony, the event creates memorable experiences for downtown Raleigh visitors. Grab your mittens, lace up your kicks, and make your way to the heart of the center city for Raleigh's premier holiday event!

Scandinavian Christmas Fair

The Scoop: The Scandinavian Christmas Fair in Raleigh, NC, is a celebration of the rich traditions of the Nordic countries: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. This old-world celebration is certain to get you into the spirit of the season! This year marks the 21st anniversary of the fair. It attracts people and families of all nationalities who want to experience the magic of Christmas in Scandinavia. For many it has become an annual holiday tradition. At the Julmarknad you can enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of Scandinavia: homemade Scandinavian food, live Nordic entertainment all day, craft items and imports for sale, a spectacular Lucia Procession and more!

Christmas on Main

The Scoop: In celebration of the beginning of the Christmas season, the annual Christmas tree lighting and festivities in downtown Benson will take place on Friday December 1 from 5:00PM – 8:30 PM. There will be entertainment from 6:00 PM until the tree is lit. Shortly after the tree is lit, the parade will begin. After the parade, there will be entertainment by Alicia’s School of Dance and RenDance Academy at the intersection of Market and Main. Santa will visit with children on Main Street in front of Jenny’s Sweet Creations and there will be an antique tractor and car show. The stores on Main Street will be open serving hot beverages and treats and local civic clubs will be handing out free items.

Hot Nuts & Cider at Raleigh City Farm

The Scoop: Piedmont Picnic Project is taking you back to the good ol' days when people sat around the fire with friends sipping on warm drinks, chatting, telling stories and savoring those last days of the season by joining forces with Raleigh City Farm for Hot Nuts & Cider! You'll get to make your own spiked cider with wild foraged add-ins, crack and roast wild foraged nuts over the fire and make some historically significant Christmas decorations. There will also be live, fireside music.

The 25th Annual Boylan Heights Art Walk

The Scoop: Stroll through historic Boylan Heights in downtown Raleigh and shop for special holiday gifts. Artists will be showing and selling their work on porches and lawns, in homes and at artists' studios. There will be a range of artwork from new and established artists, including pottery, jewelry, home accessories, photographs, watercolors and more.
