HARRIS TEETER vs. GIANT FOOD

I shop at both of these grocery stores.  My husband is convinced we save more money at Harris Teeter.  I, on the other hand, am convinced we save more money at Giant Food.

After collecting receipts and comparing, I felt like I do when I watch coverage of the Democratic Primary.  There are strengths to both....and it depends on how you look at the situation as to which store is the "best".

Giant Food's non-sale prices beat Harris Teeter hands down.  There is no comparison.  Their prices are about 6-7% less expensive.  Their motto and advertising campaign about EVERYDAY LOW PRICES is absolutely correct.

Where Harris Teeter wins is their sale prices.  They seem to do a lot of two for one deals that end up being a better buy.  Their sale prices on brand names come in just under Giant.

Chris Ann:  It sounds like you've got this all down to a science.  Now if the Democrats could only figure out how to do it too, they'd be in better shape.  Take care...  By the way... I remember shopping at Giant, but never heard of Harris Teeter.

Karen Anne:  Harris Teeter is brand new to our area.  They are really known in the Carolinas and points south.

Hi Chris! We don't have either of these stores in Kentucky. I have been in Harris Teater before and I really thought it had a lot to offer. Thanks for stopping by my blog to check on my dog, Chanel. She got her first taste of pizza the other night. The phone rang and I had left her on the couch...along with my plate of pizza. Up to then she had never cared about people food. (She's never had any) Well... I got back and she was helping herself to a piece. She's having a few issues today...outside. lol

Lizette:  Glad those issues are happening outside!  Chanel sounds like a piece of work.

Chris Ann - Great post! I'm a coupon clipper. Sometimes I am able to get great deals by working a store's "double coupon policy."

Jackie:  I don't think I'm organized enough to keep their double coupon days straight, though I do drive my husband crazy with my "coupon organizer" at check out.  He used to feel like I was holding everyone behind me up while I sifted through them, but he doesn't care anymore.  He actually brags about it to his Mom.  It's funny how the economy can make you change your tune.
