Pondering on Sunday...On Consistency…

Just Because

And for a reason…

I have been a member of ActiveRain since 2010.  I wasn’t particularly
active let alone consistent in the beginning.  I wasn’t sure about this place.  Hey, I didn’t know you.  You didn’t know me.   Why would you read my reports..my posts...or listen to my thoughts?  Truth be told...I hadn’t found my blogging voice(yeah, we have one - know it or not)  And this forum?  Unsure.   Me as a blogger - that’s almost laughable.  As if, right?  Even the  term is kinda funny.  Agree?  I mean...I have no training in blogging.   I don’t have a degree or a certificate in that subject/field.  What makes me qualified?   I write what I have experienced.  And what I am experiencing...what is happenng(or happened) to me.

When I first joined this forum...I joined to “help” my business.  I didn’t have a guide or a book I could follow...I was told that ActiveRain(and a couple of other places...the names escape me were good places to join.  So I did.  I joined.  I watched.  I didn’t really  participate at first.

Okay...let’s get back to consistency.  You know. The subject at hand.  I wasn’t particularly consistent at first that is where my blogging/particpating on ActiveRain was concerned.  Many weren’t I imagine.  But eventually I got the “hang” of it...I liked the forum..I liked the people...and I received some phone calls too that mentioned they had found me online...who knew?  This thing kinda works.  And the membership.  Some were downright awesome.  Some are still here.  Others I “met” along the way -- the path -- what a wonderful journey.

I digress.  I ponder.  On consistency.  So as I ponder I try to pull together what others may have written about consistency -- to see if I can relate...that’s what I do.  As I ponder. And otherwise too.

Trust is built with consistency

When you look at people who are successful, you will not find them to be the people who are motivated but who have consistency in their motivation.

                                                                                          Arsene Wenger

Getting an audience is hard.  Sustaining an audience is hard.

It demands a consistency of thought, of purpose, and of purpose over a period of time.

                                                                                            Bruce Springsteen

And now back to that consistency thing...I had it for a while...in some parts of my life I still hold on to it.  Here...well...I’m trying...that’s all I am going to say on the subject...for now...I am processing...that is processing while I ponder...because I can.  And so can you.   If you choose.  To be consistent.  Or not.  As I ponder.

Michael nice walk backwards of where you started and many of us as well for that matter.  Nobody really knew what it was about at first but we figured it out together, didn't we! Ponder that one!

I am not always as consistent about posting blogs as I'd like to be.  However, someone with a great mind once said, "Inconsistency is the hobgoblin of the simple mind."

Hi Michael Jacobs, I don't know about you but I personally need a break from consistency from time to time and I give myself permission to do so. My beginning on ActiveRain was very similar to yours and I'm so glad I joined this platform.
My consistency is mostly five days a week, if I can do seven, that's a bonus.  Isn't five days a week consistent? I think so..
I love..love..love your pondering posts, when I read them, I ponder because I can thanks to your post.

Hi Michael Jacobs - I always enjoy reading your posts but I can be inconsistent. Sometimes we get inundated with the holidays and the work load and something has to be put on the back burner. Unfortunately, It is the blogging for me!

Good morning Michael.  Like you, I didn't really know how to handle Active rain at first and now it has become a habit, possibly an addiction.

I am glad you decided to jump in the pool way back when.  At least through AR, I have made a life-long friend.  I am not as consistent these days because of distractions and the lack of motivation to be consistent.  I'm sure you know what I mean.  It is always a treat to see something you have been pondering...

How did I miss this, I ponder? I'm all for pondering and reflection and trying to figure out the next best move. I know you're thinking and can hear your wheels turning from here. I hope to keep seeing  you in the Rain on a consistent basis - it is sad to lose favorite members and viritual friends. Still missing that smart aleck ( alec)  dude from Fort Collins. ;)

I've missed your pondering and I'm very happy to see this! I've not been writing much lately and can't seem to find the motivation or inspiration to do so. I'm hoping that changes. For both of us.

Thanks for making a key point: it is more than motivation, it is having consistent motivation.

Hi Michael - It won't surprise you that I've been doing some pondering on the same subject. Consistency turns out to be a hard habit to break, too, and times of change can leave us feeling a bit adrift. But I've also always been a change freak, and it's the journey that makes it all worthwhile. I just have to figure out how to trim these damn sails.

Oh, that damned consistency thing! I somewhat jokingly tell people I am only consistent with flossing and brushing my teeth. And, well my love for my family and my critters.

Good evening Michael Jacobs,

I'm so glad to see your pondering post! I've been distracted and not as consistent as I juggle end of year closings, holiday events and now Geno's surgery this week..trying to stay in tune but feel like there are only so many hours in the day and I need to come up for air more often!

Hi Michael

I was so glad to see Kathy featured it as I think it's an issue many of us struggle with in different areas of our lives - I know I do. It was enjoyable to read again, and to ponder consistency - why, what, when, and does it matter and if so how?

Well, I've been inconsistent in the Rain this week - lots going on in Charlotte and I am barely keeping my head above water this holiday season!

I'm thrilled to check in on you and see you pondering again (and posting market reports!). I share your passion for pondering, agree with you wholeheartedly on consistency and your reason for starting here in the Rain.

We're all certainly glad you joined and it's been a pleasure over the years, for sure! Those phone calls and emails from the consumer are wonderful fruits of our labor but, the friendships here in the Rain are pretty darned wonderful too.

Hope you have a fantastic week ahead, Michael!
