Some AR Groups Are Better Than Others - Aren't They?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Mike McCann - Broker, Farmland Broker-Auctioneer Serving Rural Nebraska

I have wondered for years which Active Rain groups a person should belong to.

There are like 7,431 various AR groups. I realize that the vast majority of those groups are small, to a targeted individual, or have little to no activity.

But are there some of the groups that are better than others? Number of members in a group does not make it a great or active group in my opinion.

Now, don't take this the wrong way, If I belong to your group or a group you are in, I am not saying I want to leave it...but you can only post to so many groups with a blog and I really want to reach as many folks as I can.Mike McCann Nebraska Land Broker It's Only a Wall if you let it be a Wall

I am a slow typer...so it takes me a while to write a blog...and then throw in the fact that most of my blogs are not Feature Post worthy...only 17 features in 544 blogs....I want to make sure the few that see my blogs actually want to see them and if I am lucky...read them...and if I am really, really, lucky...or good...leave a comment on them.

I could be wrong...(after all, I am married...soooo)...but it seems like the vast majority of people that respond to my blogs and many others are the same 50 to 150 people.

But since I am the Perception is Really the Deception of  Reality guy...I know that what I see...or perceive...may not not be the accurate answer.

If you have a thought on the best groups, please leave a written version of that thought in a comment...or if you are not reading this...don't worry about it.

It is Only a Wall if You Let it Be a Wall

Until Next Time...Keep an Open Mind!!

Hi Lottie Kendall   Yes I agree.  I am not sure which groups to be in...so I keep on going with what I have.  Thank you for stopping by.

Good morning Mike. I was in the Rain for a couple of years before I ever joined a group. Anna invited me to join Bananatude and I think it is the most interesting and active but I like others too.

Hi Sheila Anderson Thanks for stopping by.

That is a great group.

I used to belong to that group and unfortunately one day I was somehow breaking the rules of the group.

An AR guy who said he was the moderator for the group told me I was posting too close together and to take down one of the posts...so me being a stubborn kind of guy...especially on that Sunday afternoon about 6 years ago...took them all off.

Even though I saw others with 2 and 3 posts in a row on the group page, which of course upset me as I felt that Big Brother was watching me. I guess the rule was to keep serial posters from posting every re-blog or something.

I just checked and still have the email string of that conversation.

Now keep in mind that I have only posted 548 blogs in over 8  years so I am pretty sure I was not inundating it but a rule is a rule...and I did not have time then...nor do I now to make sure that I did not have two posts on the same page of the group.

I did enjoy it back then but if that rule is still in effect, I doubt if I will rejoin.  As you can see from my blog, I tend to blog in waves...many days in a row and then not at all for maybe weeks...and I guess I may fall outside the rules sometimes...and that is okay if I stay away.

Hopefully there are others who will share their thoughts as well on groupd they enjoy.  Maybe it doesn't really matter if you post to any groups.

Have a great rest of your week!!

Hi Mike- when I joined ActiveRain I posted in groups that make a bit of sense but then realized that what made more sense was to post in a group that was active. I'm a moderator for Bananatude and I can tell you that I've forgotten the rule on occasion and had my own post removed!  It's done so that the multiple-posts from one person don't take up the Group page and give the posts of others the chance to be seen.

I would love to see you back in Bananatude because I love your posts!!!!!

Hi Mike

I think it's a good question and there seem to be a number of groups that are used a lot, while many no longer have any activity. Bartender Make it a Double, and Bananatude are pretty popular and members are active, and they are moderated well. I personally have dropped out of a bunch of groups since there is no activity and I never use them for posting, and there are others, too. It seems that groups became very popular early on and the number skyrocketed, but other than the major ones I wonder how effective they really are these days.

Jeff

Mike, sometimes after seeing what groups one of my favorite bloggers subscribes to, then I'll check it out myself.

I have started three of my own. It's been awhile since I did that. Got a wild hair I guess! Like Lottie, it might be time to clean house and de-clutter!

So glad that Kathy Streib highlighted this one. Slow typer or not, you did a bang up job with this one!

Any kind of site where all professionals congregate, it become a social site to network. Most realtors post their blogs and leave.  As for featured I have not seen anyone want to read why my area homes are $1200-1800 sf.  One can get better quality homes for a lot less elsewhere. If you feel you are doing a good job and content. Most likely you are doing fine.

Hi Sam Shueh Thanks for stopping by.  Yes, I agree that most just post their listings...which I do not pay real close attention too except for a few cities that I have an interest in.

Hi Mike, so glad Kathy Streib featured this post. The first group I joined was Bananatude based on a recommendation from another Rainer who's no longer in the rain. There are a few I favor as they seem to be more active.

I mostly post to Bananatude, Bartender Make It A Double, The Lounge At ActiveRain, Home Staging (obviously, LOL), Wordless Wednesday, Anything Goes and Realtor Life.

I need to do some housecleaning and delete some of the many I joined that are not even active any more.

Mike, thanks for this post. I belong to several groups and have forgotten about many of them. I need to go take a look at which are active and may need to clean up my list.

Thanks
