YOU define and create your own destiny.

I am a firm believer that I define and create my own destiny. For many years, I was a counselor. During those days, I remember so many clients who came into my office with problems that were taken right from their lineage.

When I asked why they were following their family norms, they would say, "That's all I know." And, I would insert "That's why you're here" " I would also always ask, "Why don't you define your own destiny?" If the family norms were good and healthy, there was no reason to break away, but most people didn't end up in my office because they came from healthy families. They ended up in my office because they came from damaged families.

Destiny is within your grasp. I come from a family of men who die young with heart issues. I decided in 1977 that I was going to break the mold. I am currently the oldest surviving male in my family (61). And, I plan on seeing my 3 year old granddaughter graduate college, have a family and be self-sufficient. That means I need to hang around a while, and I plan on it.

That brings me to my point. You define your destiny and you create your future. It doesn't matter what your childhood was. Mine was not healthy or supportive, but that didn't mean that I couldn't raise my sons in a healthy and supportive environment. I knew the difference as a child, and I chose to do something different from my predecessors. 

This is one time I don't mind using the pronoun "I". Why? Because I choose to live healthy. I choose to exercise. I choose to eat right. I choose to get enough sleep. I choose to be in business for myself. I choose to set my course for the future, and I choose my own destiny. I choose to be successful. I choose to leave a legacy in my path that others can follow. It doesn't matter what my family of origin did. This is my choice.

You choose your destiny and your future. When it's all said and done, I will know that I didn't short-change my life because of the negative impact of others, but I drew on every fiber of my being to be different and to be what I wanted to be. Set your own destiny and future.
