Every week the National Gallery of Art has a spectacular set of musical offerings in addition to some of the best art in the United States.  This week is no exception.  With the holiday season comes an extra special set of concerts.  If you are in the DC area, I hope you can stop by and enjoy!  I would love to see the National Presbyterian School Chorus or the United States Army Chorus, but I will be working this Sunday.

National Presbyterian School Chorus

Rotunda

Christophe Sturzenegger, conductor
Robert Baker, narrator

The Soldier's Tale by Igor Stravinsky was conceived in the fall of 1917, exactly 100 years ago. Stravinsky, living in the French-speaking part of Switzerland at the time, had reworked a Russian text with the Swiss poet Charles Ferdinand Ramuz. The Soldier's Tale premiered at the Théâtre Municipal de Lausanne.

Swiss composer Christophe Sturzenegger's The Snow Queen, written in Geneva in 2009, has been performed over 75 times in Switzerland. It is based on the Hans Christian Andersen children's story of the same name. The Disney movie Frozen was inspired by Andersen's story.

Program:
Igor Stravinsky, The Soldier's Tale
Christophe Sturzenegger, The Snow Queen

Morning Lise.

The weather this weekend means I'll be staying inside as much as possible.  Cold and windy.  Hope you enjoy the concert

Being in the DC area you get such a plethora of cultural choices! I miss those days when I could just pop into my car and get to a live concert in no time. However, the trade off is the sound of quiet, nature, birds, and  other wild critter sounds as well as Fishhawk Creek running alongside our property and the salmon spawning in it right now for our viewing!
