My Christmas Memories that I remember most were at my grandparents house and the smells were intoxicating.
My grandparents on my mom's side we're both from Norway. My grandparents traditional Christmas tree was made of aluminum and had a rotating light that would shine or different colors upon that metal tree. I still remember the noisy electric motor that turn the color wheel.
Another interesting memory of my grandparents house was all there living room furniture was covered with hard vinyl, see through, plastic. I remember; it would either be sticky or would shock (Static Electricity) the heck out of me.
My grandmother was a fantastic cook and she knew all the Norwegian Delicacies that I still love to this very day. If you can't pickle it, salt it, deep smoke it or last but not least ,deep fry it; it won't be served.
Something else would happen each and every Christmas celebration at my grandparents house and that was someone, if not my grandfather, would kick over his Spittoon. I can remember like it was yesterday seeing all those stains right next to his chair. (I'm sorry, but that is one nasty habit.)
But after everything was said and done, we would all settle down and get our pajamas on. My beautiful grandmother would carry me out and put me in the backseat of the car where I would become sleepy and never worry about the drive home or how to find my bed; it was all done for me.
This all happened in the late 1950s before my grandmother passed away; at a young 60 years old. I can still remember how she smelled and how sweet her voice was with that cute Norwegian accent.
Thank you for the challenge Kathy!
