I don't know about you but after years of paying into the fund I expected to collect Social Security without suffering penalties. After all I had faithfully contributed for all of my working life. Once I applied to receive my benefits I was shocked to find the cost of Part B did not cover everything and that supplemental on advantage coverage wasn't cheap either. Nonetheless, I did what I needed to and vowed that being without insurance was not an option.
Every year my actual take come was reduced. Last year I found the cost of Part B was increased as was my advantage coverage, which meant with no cost of living increase my net dollar was down by roughly 5%. Bummer.
This year there is an 2% cost of living adjustment which is largely off set by an increase in the Part B, or physician, prescription and full hospitalization. So once again my money and I do mean my money is being abrogated by a caretaker who doesn't really care.
So my advice to younger folks who are still working full time is to count on nothing and prepare for yourself. We all know that life is seldom fair but always worth embracing. Remember this when you vote and hold all who would take your money away accountable. And that my friends is my thought for today.
