The real estate company I work for, Johnson Real Estate, Inc., in Cromwell, CT is a full service company.  I'm sure I have mentioned this before.. but I have now taken the "Full Service" aspect to another level when it comes to being there for my clients.

For example, once I went to help out a client that moved from a rental to a home.  This client was physically challenged, and couldn't get her apartment cleaned enough to get her security back.  So, I went in and shampooed the rugs (with my own shampooer, next time I'll rent one), and sure enough it was then up to the management's standards, and she got her deposit back.

Yesterday I helped out clients that are moving in a few weeks.  They were having a tag/yard sale and had so many items to sell that I helped them set up.  They took my advice from a few weeks back when I mentioned that having a tag sale is a good way to get rid of items you don't use anymore, and it helps put some cash into your pocket.  Also, this will decrease what you have to move, and you won't have to pay to have it moved. It is a win - win situation.

They invited me to stay for a while, so I did.  I wanted to see how many people actually still come to these.  I was there for a while, and before I knew it I was helping them sell items.   This was a first, helping out at a tag sale for clients.  Much to my surprise it paid off in other ways.  When I have had time in the past I would stop at these and give the owners my business card in case they were planning on selling their home.   Now, I was on the other side of the table, (no pun intended) and much to my amazement, people who came were shocked to see a realtor helping out.  I ended up giving out my business cards to a few people; some said, "They would be calling me".

I guess you never know how helping someone, when you least expect it, will come back and help you out too.

Both good things to do. Anything to be out of the office. Business is created in the field, not in the office.

Ken.. Great point.  In the office, I feel people think we are ridgit.. just work oriented.  When we are out in the field, it is a softer approach (more human) way of relating to people.  It is a more relaxed atmosphere.

Bob.  Thanks.. I hope to hear from at least one of these people, which would make working at the tag/yard sale a complete success.

Going the extra mile AFTER the deal is done is so important to my clients.  I never want them to feel like once the paperwork is signed I'm out of there.  Many agents in our area hit the bricks with their check and never look back.  That makes it easier for those who do go the extra mile.

Kris... I couldn't agree with you more.  A few years back I was at a closing, and both realtors were given their checks.  The other realtor bolted.. I stayed until it was over.  At the end the attorney for my client wanted to speak with me, he seems so upset. I was wrong.  He pulled me aside and said that he wanted my business cards.  He wanted to work with me in the future.. I've been the only realtor in the years he's been in business that has stayed throughout the WHOLE closing.  That make me feel good.  I'm glad to see there are others that feel  their job isn't finished when handed a check.
