Winter is here and the trees are now covered with snow from the snow storm this weekend as you can see in my Final Blog Of The 2017 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middlefield, CT. With the arrival of Winter in Connecticut, my Progression Of Fall Colors series I started six years ago is now completed. I had intended for my previous blog in this series the "Eighth Blog Of The 2017 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middlefield, CT"., to be the final blog in this series for this year. But a few people requested to see this sight once snow had arrived, and the trees were covered with snow. So I decided to post one more blog to comply with their request.
The first two years of this series the pictures were of a farm which is only about a minute walk from my house. Three years ago I decided to change the location for the 2014 Progression Of Fall Color Series to a lake about 5 minutes from my house on RT17. I tried that location for two years, but the colors were not as good as I expected them to be. So last year I decided to change locations again to this present location on a site of Lyman's Orchards in Middlefield CT.
As I have done for the last six years, I have post pictures of this same spot at different points throughout the Fall to show the progression of the Fall colors. I posted my first blog this year of the 2017 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middlefield, CT about eight weeks ago, and my latest blog about a of weeks ago.
October was an unusually warm month for this part of the country, and the warm weather delayed the leaves turning color. The weather was also very dark and gloomy early in October, as you can see in the first picture. However, you will see in the 2nd picture the weather had started to clear up the following week, and the trees started to change color. Five weeks ago the weather had finally started to feel more like Fall. The temperatures become cooler, the air more crisp, and the days clearer and brighter. The leave finally began to change color quickly, and increase in color in the third picture.
I start to become hopeful that bright Fall colors might still becoming our way, but each of the last six weeks progressively made that possibility more and more doubtful. We got some severe wind gust throughout most of October along with heavy rain, which caused many trees to lose their leaves much quicker than normal. This is evident in the previous six pictures, and very noticeable especially in the previous two pictures. With just about all of the trees having lost their leaves any possibility of seeing vibrant Fall colors this year has ended.
My favorite Fall colors are the trees with yellow, orange, and rust color leafs when they blend together. Anyone planning to come to New England to enjoy those beautiful Fall colors at their peak next year, should plan on coming between the last two weeks in October to the beginning of November.
Next year my Progression Of Fall Colors Series will be of the trees in my back yard. This will make it easier to capture the change in the trees quickly, especially for the blog I would like to close off the series with of snow covered trees.
The change of colors has come to a conclusion in Middlefield, CT., and I hope you have enjoyed following my 2017 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middlefield, CT. this year.
