We currently have a contest about Holiday Memories of which I have many. One of my most enjoyable memories was one that happened about 15 years ago, and it was just a few days before Christmas.
My three oldest grandchildren were always at my house visiting. Tammy would drop them off, and they’d spend time with me. We always had fun, but at Christmas time, it was really a special time for all of us.
Two out of three of them still believed in Santa Claus, but they knew I bought them gifts, too. My gifts were always placed under the tree, as I bought and wrapped them. I always bought them more than I should have, but I had fun doing it.
There was one visit that we all remember, and to this day, when the family is hanging out together, this story always surfaces. The gifts were piled three deep and would come out at least 8 feet. All three kids would walk around the gifts and try to read the labels to see who had which gifts. They knew they were not to touch or pick up and shake.
One day I decided to allow each of them to unwrap three gifts. They had to promise not to throw me under the bus by telling their mother. They were so excited, and part of the deal was for them to show excitement on Christmas Eve when they opened all of their gifts.
I gave them each three of their gifts, and it was like having an extra Christmas. They had fun doing it, and helped me rewrap them. I had the best time watching them, and they were so excited to know three of their gifts. They were all very excited and looking forward to Christmas Eve.
Of course, on Christmas Eve as they reopened and acted out their excitement when opening those three gifts, their mother knew there was something going on!! I did get thrown under the bus! My daughter was upset with me, but it passed very quickly. Tammy knows how I march to my own drummer!!
I think this story was shared with teachers at school, too!!! It was a fun Christmas for all of us.......I called this one a Dress Rehearsal!!!
