Indiana is looking into providing Debit Card for unemployment benefits

Wow, is Indiana catching up with the rest of the United States.  Indiana is looking into paying out unemployment benefits with free direct deposit and debit cards.  The state is looking to be able to accomplish this for the client through a phone call to transfer funds from their debit card account to their personal checking and/or savings accounts.

The reason for this change is that the holder of the card only receives one free transaction using the government issued unemployment benefit.  The holder is charged $1.25 per transaction.  This charge can be expensive if you use the card for food, gas, etc.  With direct deposit there is not a possible for these unnecessay charges.
