Merry (almost) Christmas, friends and family! The day has finally come, and we cannot believe it is almost the end of 2017. In spirit of this holiday, we thought we would share a couple fun facts about Christmas that are not commonly known. If you have any to add, don't hesitate to leave a comment below!

2. Telling scary ghost stories in as old Christmas Eve tradition that has died out in the past century.
3. It is estimated that the song "White Christmas" by Irving Berlin is the best selling single in history with over 100 million copies sold!
4. During the Christmas of 1914 (World War I), a truce was held between Germany and the UK. They decorated their shelters, exchanged gifts acorss no man's land and played a game of football between themselves.
5. Between the 16th and 19th centuries was what is known as a "little ice age" where global temperatures were several degrees lower than normal. It is for this reason that many Christmas carols and songs stress a "White Christmas."
6. The image of Santa Claus flying his sleigh began in 1819 and was created by Washington Irving, the same author who dreamt up the Headless Horseman.
7. The Montgomery Ward department store created Rudolph the Reindeer as a marketing gimmick to encourage children to buy their Christmas coloring books.
8. Want to know a useful way to recycle your Christmas tree? Some zoos take donated Christmas trees and use them as food for the animals.
9. The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
10. The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
