heartWe're in a business that can sometimes be high stress.

It's also a business that sometimes people forget the basic niceties.

I've been in this business long enough to go around the block more than a few times.  That experience pays off on my client's behalf time and again.

And there's one thing I've come to really appreciate over the years, and it's home buyers and sellers that understand common courtesy.  They're the ones I enjoy working with most.  It's a personal thing and I've seen it come from buyers and sellers from the lowest price points to the the highest.

The basic recognition that as their agent I'm providing value to them and that recoginition can come in many forms.

It may be as simple as saying "Thanks" when I do something for them.

Or communicating promptly, especially when we're in a time crunch.

It's recognizing I did my job and the house that got away because your schedule was packed is on you.

It's letting me know when your plans change so I'm not still searching for homes you no longer want to buy.

It's making sure I'm protected when you visit a builder and they KNOW you're working with me.

It's making the effort to tell your friends and family about your real estate agent.  Your vouching for me is absolutely the golden seal of approval.

It's understanding that I'm not always available on short notice, that other clients may have reserved my time before you asked.

It's being patient when the market isn't performing as we hoped, and knowing we WILL succeed!

It's listening when I'm providing you advice, and taking the advice to heart.

It's not letting other people whisper in your ear, providing you misinformation that steers you wrong.

Courtesy.  It's priceless in this business and I'd like to thank all of you home buyers and sellers that get it.  It makes it that much easier for me to go that extra step for you, because believe it or not, it's not just a paycheck that motivates me.

Bravo!  I'm working with a seller who has said "I appreciate you" over and over because it's been a difficult estate sale.  Probate in a different state, not to GA standards on paperwork in place and it's been so hard on her, but she seems to appreciate that she's being kept informed.

Just that acknowledgment can make a HUGE difference in how helping them feels.

The "whispering in the ear" one is that drives me nuts. I don't care that your Aunt Clara who lives in a different state told you how the process is supposed to work. She's wrong. I know what I'm doing.

Courtesy is a wonderful thing.

That is frustrating.   And it happens.   "But my friend...", "But when I sold my house in Iowa...", etc.   One, friends often don't give you the whole story.  Two, we're NOT in Iowa, we're in Ohio, and it's not the same year, so all kind of things can be different.

Good morning Liz and Bill. As I constantly remind myslf, it takes two to tango and it is much easier if you are on the same wavelength. Enjoy your day!

I'll do my utmost to stay on the polite side of the ledger.  It helps gain my clients an advantage too.  When I've worked with an agent before, they know to expect a smooth interaction and not me being rude just to be rude.
