Millions of people believe in the American Dream of home ownership. There's nothing like it people say. You work hard and you try and save your money. Or perhaps, you work hard and you just can't seem to save enough money for that down payment on your dream home. Is there another way? We've seen in the past several years that there were ways to get a piece of the American Dream without putting any money down - wow, could that be?! You betcha...there have been many ways in the past to live your dream; no money down, interest only, stated income, and on and on. But was the desire for the American Dream clouding everyones vision? Only look at today to see what happened with the rise in Foreclosures across the nation. Florida has been particularly hard hit. The land of sunshine where so many want to live their lives and shape their future. Unfortunately, many now do not know what their future holds because yes, their American Dream has been bruised.

I've talked to many homeowners who are being faced with foreclosure and I wonder how they ever qualified to buy a home to begin with. I'm helping homeowners with the Short Sale of their homes every day. Who was turning the cheek and looking the other way? Who's got their hand in the messy pot? Some say the Lenders, the Mortgage Brokers or the Realtors. Was the vision clouded by greed? The almighty dollar really comes into play here; is that all there is? Do you think anyone has learned from this? Must such disasters to the housing sector happen as they are today in order for lessons to be learned.  In life it always seems that awful events occur before we wake up and reallly see what's going on. It's too bad..

Many homeowners that I've helped here in South Florida in citys such as Coral Springs, Coconut Creek, Sunrise and surrounding cities have also had their American Dream bruised by loss of employment, medical illnesses, divorces, etc. These homeowners weren't affected by the greed of others necessarily but by lifes unfortunate events.

Don't despair as the American Dream may not be in your hands right now but always believe in the power of hope; hope for better days.

                  Without hope we have nothing.

Lynn- We are seeing that people are being more cautious and conservative. The American Dream is alive maybe slightly bruised after a period of adjustment. Great writing!

Barbara, it's good to see that we can learn from events. And yes, the American Dream will never go away....it's just one of the reasons that make this country the best!  Thank you for your kind words.

Denise, thanks so much for commenting and your heartfelt comments too! You're right sometimes all we have is Hope and it's amazing isn't it how a little bit of Hope can go a long way.
