I was commenting on a Brian England post yesterday about one of his hikes in the desert and expressed my preference for a Brown Christmas not being a fan of cold weather. Today in Jupiter Florida was a perfect example of that. We do a 4 mile beach walk by the ocean every day and today was remarkable. With a cool breeze barely blowing and a clear sky we enjoyed the almost 80 degree weather this morning. What was most remarkable is the calmness of the water. I have never seen it as smooth as a bathtub full of water and the clarity of the turquoise hue of the surface and seeing six feet clear reminded me of the Caribbean. It is mornings like this that create calmness in my mind especially since we are worn out by writing contracts during the holidays. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, but this afternoon will be a break for us with a bit of Christmas shopping, champagne on the balcony, and counting all our blessings on all our fingers and toes multiple times. I have posted about what it means getting older and how I feel now that I have reached 70, but it can get sweeter if you try, and it has done exactly that. This weekend will be filled with great food, happy families around us, people flocking to the ocean, fish being caught, and greetings of the holidays delivered with a smile. It doesn't get any better than this. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, and may the season be filled with joy and contentment.
Joe,
We know just what you mean...we have been busier than a one-armed paper hanger as my friend from Georgia says...I am looking forward to our 4 mile walk on Sandyland Beach, and then we have wonderful friends coming over to stay and celebrate the New Year...and we will take them walking on the beach...Not quite 80, more like mid 60's. That is a view that I could certainly deal with for Christmas! I couldn't even imagine living in a cold weather state.

Joe, there is something magical about being on a body of water. I too hate the cold and just sitting on a warm beach would satisfy me.
Weather is the main reason I bail out of Sacramento every winter. I keep increasing the time I am away. At first it was 2 weeks, then 4, then 6 and this year I said WTH, I'm leaving Nov. 30th and coming back Feb 1. I have never regretted this decision. Slowly working toward 6 months on island and 6 months in Sacramento. You know, a little balance.

Hi Joe Pryor wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.... relax and enjoy....
Joe, Nice pics that capture the many moods of our ocean...it can be calm and serene or full of fury. I would have guessed those pics were from Key West, on most days it look every similar. And you know, 70 is the new 50...that is my mantra as I am only a couple years behind you. Merry Christmas!
HI Joe... sounds like you had a lovely afternoon planned out for today. It really is important, as the saying goes, to stop and smell the roses on ocassion... or in your case, the salty ocean air.
Sounds absolutely beautiful where you are, although I am always hoping for snow in our neck of the woods. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I totally get you wanting that kind of brown Christmas, but here a brown Christmas is not pretty. We really need a white one. We need that lovely white blanket to cover up all the dead landscaping. It's cold here either way so the white is by far the best choice for us!

Perhaps it's the Alaska background, but at Christmas I love snow, and it's possible we may get a dusting this year. But, right after Christmas, I could handle some beach time...and we will actually be doing it... :)

Happy Holidays to you too, Joe!
I can't believe how calm the sea is in that photo - and being able to see 6' down is rare but, gosh, how calming is that for a nice walk on the beach. 80º weather? I'm GREEN with envy for your Brown Christmas! LOL
Joe, that walk sounds wonderful, and yesterday we saw some of that "white stuff", and now is freezing cold. Enjoy the beach!
It's somewhat overcast here in Sacramento. It gets really cold after sundown. But, frost has missed us, barely!
We have a rainy Saturday in Maryland.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Merry Christmas!
Joe
Sounds lilke a wonderful time to relax, enjoy, contemplate and re-energize...no matter what the color!
Happy Holidays!
Jeff

HI Joe Pryor - those are wonderful images. There is something so special about the beach and how it transforms those who are near it. I am glad you are in the sweet spot of your life! Happy Holidays!
