It is Better to Light a Candle Than to Curse the Darkness
I researched this quote this morning to find it's author....it has been attributed to many people from Confucious to John F. Kennedy....in my sleeplessness....I thought it one that Lou Ludwig would have authored as well....he was the bright light in many of our days as we read through the posts on Active Rain.
In my family home....and since in our own home when you wish someone well...you light a white candle. My Mother did it when someone had an exam...a job interview, wasn't feeling well. White candles, some people will tell you symbolizes the cleansing and protection of the body providing peace and comfort to your spiritual side. When you extinguish a white candle, the smoke signifies the release of negative thoughts. Whether you choose to believe in this sort of practice or not...to me, there is great comfort in this symbolism..maybe because it was a family practice long before reading about color therapy...and maybe you will find it comforting as well.
I can close my eyes and imagine that if each person who reads this...chooses to share or reblog it...would light a candle how much brighter the whole world would be...starting with just one candle being lit.
I am choosing to light our candle today in honor of the memory of Lou Ludwig , a member of our community who contributed a guiding light for many of us, a positive energy to begin our day, thoughts that are timeless to share with others....choose to join me if you wish..and know that every bright light begins with a single candle. You have the power to ignite it. May you find comfort in his memory, wisdom in his words and tranquility in knowing he is at peace having left us with many wonderful gifts unique to the person he was, serving as an icon and model for many people. And so it is.
