To Be or Not To Be

Indeed, that is the question: to be or not to be.

Let's take a look at some examples.

This houses needs renovated.  An alternative to this sentence is as follows.  This house needs to be renovated.

Here are some more examples which show the two different sentence structures.

The exterior of this house needs painted.

The exterior of this house needs to be painted.

The cow needs milked.

The cow needs to be milked.

The baby needs fed.

The baby needs to be fed.

I have heard people say these things both ways.  Either way, I understood what they meant.

Personally, I believe that the words to be are necessary in these sentences.  What do you think?

Ron,

That is a good question.  I am with you.  The sentences need to have to be.

Ron,

In the age of twitter, people have started to take short cuts with the English language.

Ron,

To be needs included.  I mean, "to be" needs to be included.

Ron,

You really need to start associating with a more literate group of people.

Sandy,

That is a very good point about the age of twitter.  It is getting to the point that a new language has been created.

Karen,

You really need nicer.  I mean, you really need to be nicer.

Ron,

To Be is the best way to be, lest you would not be in which case you could not even ponder the question of to be or not to be and, yes, I agree "to be" is needed in your examples.
