David Ward was born in Springfield, Ohio back in 1857 to Robert and Harriet. He attended public schools in Springfield and attended college at Wittenberg. I could not find if he actually graduated. He moved to Maitland, Missouri and that is where the rest of the story begins.
In 1878 his father Robert obtained 1,597acres there and he sent David to farm the land. It was there David invented something that is still in use today, mind you a lot of modifications have been made to it. David was an implacable warrior against alcoholic beverages, seen on his honeymoon David and his wife Lola attended a temperance convention.
In 1896, he first used his invention using a pump stock and an oak post, you'll need to read the last to see what that one was He did patent his invention however, I do not have the patent number available. Anyway, within 10 years his invention was being used all over the country, Canada and worldwide. In 1906 the State of Iowa amended its statutes so they could use his invention.
Now you maybe asking yourself who is James writing about. Well I’m writing about David Ward King. His invention was the King road drag, what he now know as a road grader. His invention improved the widespread dirt roads of his day to the extent that they could accommodate the advent of the automobile. Until tomorrow keep that smile on your face as I know you’re smiling now that you know the rest of the story.
