The Majesty of the Oak, and the Freedom of the Sparrow.

Morning everyone.

Mike hit the nail on the head again.  Now, if we all could just remember this as we go about our day, week, month and year.  Enjoy the read, have a safe and happy weekend.

The oak stood majestically on the edge of the pasture.  For Oak Treedecades, he had proudly watched over the pasture.  Generations of cattle had come and gone from the fields before him, and there he continued to stand, firm, deep rooted and strong.

Nearby, a sparrow moved effortlessly through the air.  She made flight seem so natural.  A mild wind would lift her high, and the calm that followed would allow her to slowly glide back toward earth.  It was a dance the oak watched day after day.

In his heart, the oak knew that he played a very important role in the pasture.  He was a point of reference.  He provided a home for countless families of squirrels over the years.  He was shade for the cows who lingered nearby.  He was a refuge for the sparrow who floated on the summer winds. He was important, and he knew that, but down deep inside he envied the sparrow.

The sparrow was free to move about.  She could interact with the world in a way the oak could only dream about.  She seemed to be so carefree and joyful.  She had freedom.

The sparrow looked upon the oak with great wonder.  He was so tall and strong.  He lived a predictable life.  It was night and day, hot and cold and dry Featherand wet.  A steady routine.  He didn't need to go looking for his food, God brought it to him.  He could stand against the fiercest winds by digging in his roots and leaning into them.  Not a single wind had moved him all of his life.

Oh, how the sparrow envied the mighty oak and his stability.  And, how the mighty oak envied the sparrow and her freedom. Life is full of opportunities for envy, but the true road to happiness is finding contentment in the individual you are.  Every person has a role to play in life.  Finding that role and being content in it will bring the stability of the oak and the freedom of the sparrow.
