Christmas Cactus is Blooming

I love all kinds of fowers and plants but in December,

it is always thrilling to watch the Christmas Cactus bloom.

Christmas CactusI usually always have at least one Christmas Cactus in my house.  These plants are so easy to take care of and they produce an abundance of blooms every Christmas.  Sometimes, they even bloom around Easter.  You do not need to water them very often, transplant only every two to three years, fertilize only occasionally and they are always beautiful.  Transplanting a few leaves to make more plants is easy.

Over the years, I have had various colors.  They come in red, purple, peach, cream, rose, pink and variations of all these.  Temperatures and ph of the soil can affect the color and changes can occur. Cooler temperatures usually produce darker colors.  The cooler temperature at night will spur the plant to flower.  These plants are native to Brazil and their official plant name is Schlumbergera.

If you are looking for a nice indoor plant that is easy to care for, I highly recommend these.  Those flowering buds last for a while and add a special touch to the Christmas decorations.

Need a gift for someone who has everything?  These make great gifts.  I gave one to a neighbor friend many years ago.  She still has it and has repotted it and produced more plants from the one I gave her many times.  It is nice to know she thinks about me every Christmas when her plant blooms. :)

Pretty! Ours is a slightly darker pink. The buds are just changing from green to dark pink but havn't started to bloom - yet. I enjoy waiting for it to bloom. Ours is from a start off of one that my husband's grandma had for a long time. His cousin gave away starts to all of the relatives after his grandma died.

Your husband's Grandma, how special!  These plants are wonderful for passing along memories.  Thanks for sharing!  Happy New Year too!

Ricki, have never had a Christmas cactus, but it is beautiful.   Should check this out at the nursery.

Yes, Joan.  These are so pretty and easy to grow.  That's the best thing about them! :)
