If you've been in the Rain any length of time you realize this community is fairly fluid. Some of us have been here for years and years, others are brand new, and others come and go, and then...well some leave and never come back. But the phrase "gone but not forgotten" applies if they were active members and built relationships while they were here.
And while Facebook might not have really been much of a thing when we first joined ActiveRain, it's now an integral part of staying in touch with people. The result is I have hundreds of agents from across the US and Canada that I know I can reach out to, long after they've written their last ActiveRain post.
For me, ActiveRain is the root source of all my referrals. I'm not brand brainwashed loyal when it comes to finding the best agent to help friends/family/clients. If I've taken nothing else away from my time in this community, it's the knowledge that good and bad agents alike work for all manner of brokerages and business models. Good agents are good agents and liars and cheats are going to be who they are despite COEs and brokerage rules.
So when I need to place a referral, I like to go to people that I know, I trust, who've demonstrated expertise and also proved an ability to keep a level head. And depending on the city, I've got at least one great choice for referrals, and in some cases TOO MANY good agents to pick from. And if I don't personally know of an agent for an area, there's a solid change that one of my Rain friends past or present WILL know of a solid agent.
That was the case last week. A past buyer client soon to be future seller client needed help for home buying in their new location. A drive around on their own hadn't given them a good feeling. While I didn't know an ActiveRainer that is currently active there, I knew of a past Rainer that has since retired to Florida. A quick Facebook message and this Rainer who last blogged here in 2013 had an agent name for me.
Some quick Internet poking around by me confirmed why that agent had gotten the recommendation. A text to the agent and I had a call back within minutes. And after a conversation he had the pertinent information. He called my seller/buyers and they felt MUCH better. And he makes me look good because I recommended him (thanks to another Rainer).
It's a win-win, and it's all because the relationships built here continue well past the last blog post.
Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help!
