Two Women - Two Generations - Two Mediums =
Art Medley of Shared Results
All her life, literally, Carol Krentzman has known Helen Salzberg. Helen and her husband were life-long friends of Carol's parents. And for all those years, Carol knew about Helen's art work. She enjoyed living with pieces that Helen had shared with her over the years. In fact, art was always a bond between them. Now, after over fifty years, they became a team working together.
Carol wrote a book about the Natick Community Organic Farm and Helen created the illustrations. Other interactions over the years led to a joint art show in Natick, Massachusetts at the community art venue, TCAN.
Art has always been a driving force in Carol's life. As a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art , she worked in many mediums over the years:
- She prepared Stained Glass Art for the Natick Morse Institute Library.
- Examples of her Public Outdoor Mosaics may be seen in Natick Center.
- Carol accepts private commissions and teaches at the Mosaic Art Institute of Natick.
Now, Carol thought of going a step or two further with Helen and her art. Last year, on Saturday, June 3, 2017, Carol presented an exhibit showcasing Helen's and her own work as the mediums interacted. As a well-known painter and collage artist whose work has been acquired by museums, Helen's work seemed perfect to Carol for interpretation in mosaic. And so the collaboration between two women from two generations working in two medums began and their joint art project and show grew and thrived.
Above: the steps towards the mosaic interpretation of the collage.
To video document their work together, Carol worked diligently to prepare a video that would capture the exciting elements of the adventure and tell the story, starting with almost three hours of raw footage. She went to the local TV station and learned editing and other techniques to make it happen!
Now, lasting just under one hour, the video is comprehensive. At 25min:25sec, Helen begins to explain her process for making the collage and further ahead at 46min:49sec, Carol explains the grouting process. Once you watch those snippits, you will want to watch the whole video for sure.
