Beverley Christiani
Beverley Christiani Drake is one of the first two women to earn her pilot's license with the Government of Guyana, the first woman commercial pilot of Guyana Airways and the first and only black woman to serve as a senior aviation accident investigator for the NTSB. Thank you, James Dray.
Beverley Christiani was born in Georgetown, Guyana to Elaine and Clive back in 1956. She attended Pius Primary School graduating from St. Rose’s High School in 1974. She won a scholarship at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After graduation, she received her commercial pilot’s license in 1977.
She married Randolph before moving to the United States. She tried to join the U.S. Air Force but was turned away because she wasn’t a citizen. In 1991, she was hired as an investigator moving to Washington, D.C. She divorced in 1994, she returned to get her master’s degree in Aeronautical Science.

She is currently serving as the manager of the Federal Women’s Program of the NTSB and program director of the Industry and Government Affairs division of the NTSB.
