Whether business is slow, you are getting over a cold, or you're just in a post-holiday slump, there are some simple ways to realign yourself with the good in the universe!
1) Music!! The type of music you listen to can immediately put you in a better mood. Whether it's hard rock, reggae, gospel or classical music, put some of your favorite music on, turn it UP and watch what it does to snap you out of it.
2)Go to a party! Or have one! Getting sick around the holidays was no fun, but some great friends had invited my husband and I to see their holiday decor and talk about their first trip to NYC and I was bound and determined to enjoy seeing them! I took a couple of hours to lie down, then showered and got a bit dressed up, because it made me feel better and socializing with them boosted my spirits and my immune system! (And I warned them that I wouldn't be hugging or kissing them). Socializing can really shift your focus away from yourself and instead shift it outward towards friends and sharing good times.
3) Take a HIKE! Mother Nature is the Great Healer. And it doesn't usually cost anything but time (and maybe a little gas if you have to drive to your favorite spot). Fresh air can clear the senses immediately. Pay attention to the small things, too, staying present with your surroundings. Maybe you hear a birdcall that sounds unusual. Or that small bit of green flourishing in a brown decaying or gray winter season. Also, the physical activity of walking in nature gets the endorphins rockin' and rollin'. Lift your head as you walk, because not only does it help with your breathing, but it also gives you a feeling of confidence. And don't forget your four-legged folks who would LOVE a walk in nature with you.

4) Send someone a note just because.....recently, one of my closest friends was having a hard time with some relationship issues, so I sent her a "just cuz" notecard and wrote from my heart about what her friendship means to me. She called me and said it was exactly what she needed and it turned her around. So easy to do! And how many of us take the time to send personal notes anymore? Don't you feel that someone cares a bit extra when they've taken the time to send you a personal (snail mailed) thank you note?
5) Watch a funny movie or television show. Humor is another great healer! I recall a recent story about a woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer, didn't give in to it and instead, healed herself COMPLETELY and one of her methods of "self-medicating" was to watch only humorous programs. Love that! Humor combats fear. Humor comforts. Charlie Chaplin: "To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain and play with it". Laughing is a great form of exercise. When was the last time you laughed so hard that your stomach hurt?? If you can't remember, you're probably overdue for some good humor therapy! A study at Loma Linda University in 2006 showed that there were two hormones that were increased by humor, beta-endorphins (that alleviate depression) and human growth hormone which helps your immune system.
Go redirect that energy! And you'll draw some good to you as a reward!
