Refresher Course For All Real Estate Agents!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Sellstate Advantage Realty

It has just become apparent to me that sometimes we need to be reminded of how we should treat people, specifically each other! Times are tough all over and sometimes we forget what should come naturally! Agents are letting the state of the market effect how they have been conducting business! There is no doubt that it is tough out there, and sometimes our patience gets worn out but here are a few things I think we should all keep in mind:

Return ALL Phone Calls PROMPTLY! Not only calls to buyers and sellers but to our fellow agents!

Be Patient! I know it is frustrating waiting for answers on REO's and short sales! The listing agent wants to get it done as bad as you do! When they have an answer they will call you back! There is no need to call everyday!

Write legibly and fill in the BLANKS! Your contracts are a reflection of you! Complete the contract and please print if your handwriting can not be read.

Be on time for Showings! Work from a schedule and when showing homes be on time.

Secure the home when leaving! Be certain that the lights and fans are off and the doors are closed and locked! Always leave a card so they know you were there!

Respond Promptly and Honestly for Feedback! The listing agent is only doing their job when they call you for feedback, answer the call! The sellers are anxious to hear your buyers comments and they look to you for answers! When it is your listing don't you want feedback?

If we can all make an effort to keep these things in mind life would be so much easier!

"DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WANT THEM TO DO UNTO YOU!"

Mike~ You said it in a nutshell, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!"  What is so hard about that?

Great list.

Just common courtesy, right???

We should never be too busy to do that.

Hi Mike - There is no reason no matter how stressed that we can't still "do unto others".  Also we are professionals and should act accordingly.

Thanks for the reminder Mike. From my perspective you could include treating your escrow officer as a teammate and not an adversary. Tensions are a bit higher than normal these days and sometimes the escrow officer is the recipient of the tension.

I always loved the golden rule, they should put it into law. Waht a world this would be. Good list of rules to follow as well.
