What wine do you have with your chili?

Chef Dolores cooked some chili for our dinner on a cold January night. My wine selection was Trader Joe's Grower's Reserve Merlot 2014, an inexpensive red wine that we purchased at a Trader Joe's store in Virginia. It was very good.

Hi Roy, chili sounds like the right dinner on cold days. The price tag is not always indicative of the quality!

Roy,

Sounds good to me, and I would have said a Zinfandel from Dry Creek, CA.  We cannot get to our local Trader Joe's still.  They are hoping for next week to reopen the road.  A

Regardless, a red would be a good choice. A full-bodied cabernet or a Zin sounds very good to me. I like merlot - at times. More fond of pinot, cab or zins.  D

Made some delicious Cactus chili the other night while watching the snow fall here in Charlotte. Didn't indulge in any wine but had plenty of hot cocoa

The wine sounds delightful.  I am not sure about mixing it with Chilie

I'm not all that big of a wine drinker, Roy.  But, if I have some chili with my wife, I know that she will whine!

Hi Roy... chili is so perfect on cold days... as for the wine... afraid I don't have any as I don't drink!  But I can enjoy chili without it!

I do love chili, there isnt any good places around here anymore. I never have time to cook it myself but should make some time. Have a good Friday

Good morning Roy - the Merlot sounds like a good pair for the chilli.

As a wine lover I have to say this is where I switch to a beer instead.

Hello Roy,  I would pick a red wine and a Merlot is a good choice.  I am luck to belong to a couple of wine clubs that my wife sign us up fro but she likes whites and I like reds, so we always have more wine in the house.

Roy,

When I think Chili I think beer, I'll bet the Merlot paired well with the Chili, I actually will review a beer on Monday. A Belgian one, it was really good!

Roy, I save wine for red meats, so with chile, I would have had a margarita or Jack Daniels and 7-up.

I think that is a good choice for chili. We had chili this week during the severe cold. I made it in my new Instant Pot.
